Does anyone raise Seramas? Well I know *someone* raises them. I was just wondering how much they go for. I saw some today and fell in love. He got them local so I know someone here has to raise them.

*whoo hoo I just hatched!*

I have found in my research that training a GP pup is a lot of work and takes a long time, so we are going into this with our eyes wide open. They are apparently famous wanderers. That's probably my biggest worry. We are going to get her a radio controlled electric collar when she gets old enough to want to wander and run the control wire around the perimeter of our property. Other than that she will be allowed to run free on our place.

And she is going to be exposed to poultry only under close supervision until she is ready.

My big turkeys are an exception right now. They are doing a good job of training her not to be too rambunctious with her feathered friends. She got a little fresh with one big tom today and before I could correct her, he knocked her on her little rear.

She decided it might be more fun down by the pond.

Buster, it sounds like you are doing everything right.
We don't keep any furry animals indoors, so I put our GP puppy outside, unsupervised, pretty early. He didn't have any problems with the poultry until I had him help me round them up in the evening a few times. Then he started trying to round them up on his own during the day and that is when we started having problems.
I had foolishly thought that since the older GP never tried to catch the birds, the puppy would be like her. Wrong. At first, he would just catch the birds and carry them around. Then he started eating the birds that died when he caught them. That is when he went to a non-poultry home.
I know from experience that I am not a good dog trainer. I don't provide the consistent training that a puppy needs, so I am better off with an older dog to begin with, and then let it train me.

Morning all.

That is how I met Carla and Gerald. And then she invited me here to BYC . They came out and picked up one of our GP puppies. Since then we have had our pair fixed so no more puppies from them. And yes it is true females do not get along at all. Heck my female doesnt like any other dog period. She does not attack them she just growls alot. And the other dogs know to stay away.

Happy anniversary Stimp. Ours is tomorrow 9 years. And I got a troy built riding lawn mower for our anniversary. Got it home last night it was hot hot hot, then the wind came in and it cooled off and rained. So didnt get much mowing done. Oh well will see what today brings.

Yea we are leaning more towards a male GP, Hubby and I agree getting a older than a pup stage would be better but only if its been exposed and trained for livestock guarding... Thats the part I am having a hard time looking for... we dont necessarily want a straight pup from the litter, I should have clarified puppy.... I should say one that is 6 months or older... ha ha

That is one sweet baby! Wish I had a grandbaby, but only our oldest daughter is married and that just recently. Nothing on the horizon yet!

That's okay. My brother's grandkids are doing a great job filling in for the time being.

Sorry Stimpy I missed your other post. Did you say I should take this act and play in the road?
I would but it might make all the traffic hit the ditch.

I don't believe it. You guys don't look old enough to have been married that long.

What was it one of those kindergarten weddings?
