TJ's Na-Na :

Ronnie, question for you......I went to Wally World and bought
a really nice "honeydew mellon"...thumped it...smelled it......
all the normal "checking stuff" that us Na-Nas do. Brought it
home and sliced it last night.........What is this????? Is it a
"new fangled fruit" ? It's a honey dew mellon on the outside,
but a cantelope on the inside........... Oh, it was good, just was
expecting a Honeydew Mellon.....LOL Figured you might know.

Pyranese - Know what you're getting into.....They'll eat their
weight in your water hoses or anything they can get ahold of....
melt your heart, become another "human" member of your
family, on and on.....And then, they turn 1 year old !!!!!
They will guard your stock, guard your place, be the first to
"shake down" anyone that pulls in your driveway,...never bit
anyone....noone would push her........ But, even a female will
chase cyotes off your place.....and chase them as long as they'll
run....... We finally found Sassy 3/4 miles from the house after
chasing a family of coyotes clear out of the county....but the
truck that topped the hill didn't have a clue.

When we win the lottery and can have 1,000 acres and are 6
miles from any pavement...........Oh, there'll be another
Pyranese....... I say that.....But, don't think any of us are "over"
Sassy, yet. Am sure all of us have had "that one dog" that we'll
never forget.

Enough of that. What's goin' on with everybody?

Have a good one !

My dad saves seeds every year and plants what he was told were Jerusalem melons. They are very similar to the canteloupe but are green inside and taste somewhat like a cross between a honeydew, a canteloupe, and I think a taste similar to a kiwi fruit. I love them! We bought a few plants at a nursery earlier this year that they guy said someone gave him some seeds & said they are Israel melon seeds. I don't know where Gerald planted them in the garden to see if they have any fruit on them yet & see if they look like the Jeruselem melon or not. I hope we find them! I'll for sure be saving some seeds from my dad's melons & have some growing next year. Oh, and our canteloupe are producing super well. Gerald's been harvesting at least 20 canteloupe a day from the garden & selling them to coworkers and the flea market and the poultry auctions. Everyone loves their flavor. Gosh, that plasticulture garden is very VERY GOOD! We have watermelon ripening now too and I saw a few tomatoes turning red ... there's going to be a lot of tomatoes soon!

As for pyrenees, I had a really great male that I adopted as a pup from the Norman animal shelter about 7 years ago. He was big, beautiful, wonderful and a great guard dog. Unfortunately, he was attacked by a pack of wild dogs ... 5 of them had him down when I scared them off. I didn't realize he was bleeding to death from an artery being severed or I would have rushed him to the vet faster.

It took me 5 years to get over the pain enough to think of getting another pyr ... and now I have a trio of them, and 3 other dogs, 6 cats, and a zillion birds, etc

I just hate it that my 2 females have daily fights. They like each other & are buddies sometimes ... but then fight over who's boss. Unfortunately, I've read several books that say never keep more than one female. They have such great personalities other than that though. Never bouncy of hyper. Oh, but they do eat a lot and yes, until they're a year old will chew on everything. I had to put chicken wire around any small trees & bushes that I wanted to live. I lost several young trees to pyrenees puppies teething!

I've got field fencing for my 5 acres and they find ways to get out. Now they're confined in much more secure fencing around my barn, but not allowed to roam the acreage until I can get better fencing. We've found the pyr trio traveling across a very busy highway & I sure don't want them to become pyr pancakes. Thankfully my other 3 dogs have no desire to see the countryside, except in the pickup truck for a ride around the neighborhood.

QS,
I hope your kiddo gets better QUICK!! Can you get her to drink powerade? It tastes a little bit better that gatorade. But I like the both.
big_smile.png

It mayl take her a while to get over it. I think ther has been a few members on here that has suffered with it this summer.

That sound great about seeing you at the fair, Definately come and find me!!
I bought an apron today to do the blood testing on the birds in, so i don't get blood on my clothes. I have the past couple of years JUST HELPING!!
I wanted to get embroidered with "Poultry Princess" but Shaun said NO WAY! but I could put "Mama Hen" on it. I told him I didn't feel like an old crabby sitting hen. I guess he figured I would "embarass " him. I may do it any way

Hey! How's everyone and their families? I can't wait til Sept.
Had to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed last Friday, I swear the doctor loosened two extra teeth when he was pulling them. Getting ready for school to start. Got to see the band Monday, I was happy.

Anything special happen(ing) with anyone? (I haven't gone to read any posts yet.)

Wow, where is everyone tonight??

YooHooo Al are you out there??
I put a fan and a heat blub in the hatcher/brooder. It was holding steady at 98. I can't seem to get it any higher.....BUT I will check on it in the morning.

hey folks- one of my pullets is limping, seems like at times she will skip, other times she curls her toes, i have her separated since the roo was a little too much for her- she ran and hid... any ideas?

Stray - good to see you! Hope you enjoy this school year.
How are your chickens doing? Are they living at your house yet?

Sorry about your wisdom teeth. I remember when each of my sons had theirs out - they were sick puppies for a few days afterwards.

Les :

I just called on that Tin the guy lives 2 miles from me, I am going by there in the morning with my 20' flat bed trailer, I will probably buy the whole pile, about 300 14'er's & 100 10'er's. I could really add to the chicken condo then LOL. Thanks for heads up, you done good.

Killed my first snake of the year today(sorry Teach!). I was doing some remodeling in the loft and it was hiding behind a nest box.
Does anyone else keep remodiling their pens! It seems Everytime I turn around I think of how something would look or work better in another way. My poor birds must feel like they live in motels, always changing! After getting rid of my arabian pigeons I realized I have lost several rollers to the hawks!

I have a lot less than I thought I did. But they will repopulate quickly I'm sure.
I'm also on a homesteading forumn, and had written a post in the sheep section about seeing some shetlands sell at an auction and that I really would like to try them. Had a guy in Ohio e-mail me and offered to give me a ram and two ewes of registered stock.

All I had to do was pick them up! And that was feasible,it was only 5 hours away, but I just don't have the space for them right now! :heSo there are still some nice people out there. I was really shocked at his generosity.
