don't forget the opportunity for "transport" from someone near you who is attending POOPS. We had donations of hatching eggs, chicks, etc. brought to POOPS this past spring by Okies who lived close to someone who had a donation and couldn't make it to POOPS. We sent birds and DE home with others to deliver. At the June NPIP class, we made several exchanges on behalf of folks who were unable to attend. You just need to get the details worked out ahead of time, including whose cages will be used and where you will meet to make the exchange. Remember - this group is full of "enablers"

Now there's an idea, didn't think of that but it'll work if I fail at finding them local. Right now I'm going back in the thread, someone mentioned the other day that they had plenty of RIR's to spare and I think they are in my area... so I'm searching the thread.... found it & sent a PM.

Folks I talked to (and yes some of them were even official types) said I didn't need none of that...like the vet guy that came out and bled my stuff...thanks girly...gonna have a big ugly hutch!

Teach--When we're at POOPS I need to pick your brain on some "how to's" with quail. I have no idea how to house them through the winter, etc. I would be so thankful for the help.

not a problem...I warn you I am a minamalist...or something...I really don't do much...figure feathers are good insulation...although I don't like to break ice! I can tell you from a bad experience that they can live under the snow...that will cost you a high caffine content drink though!

I spent some time this evening trying to compare the Wildlife Department's rules to the Oklahoma Statutes and the system I was using to review the Oklahoma Statutes went down on me before I could find the definition of "wildlife".
I will continue to look into this since I have never read the law to require any kind of permit for coternix quail, since they are not indigenous to Oklahoma (where are they from, anyway?) My office is close to the Department of Wildlife so I may take a walk over there tomorrow and talk to someone in the office where I got the application for a non-commercial breeder's license a few years ago.

My curiousity is piqued, so I will try and reconcile the rules with the statutes. Stay tuned......

that sounds like a story for which I would be willing to buy the Diet Mt. Dew to hear.

P&B - you know how to tempt me!

Goodnight folks! Some cute dark headed gal keeps telling me it is time to go to bed! I usually prefer blondes but since I married this one I think I will take her up and go to sleep!
