Everytime I try to mow the yard it rains. I was getting alot done when it came pouring down on me. At least the chickens were all fed and watered and happy by that time. Hope everyone is havin ga great nite.

Were not getting a whole lot here on East Side Norman. There was a hard rain, but not much of it lasted. Whats hitting now is the cool wind, and man is it picking up. The birds are all huddled in the coop for the night, and the ducks are LOVING it. They're quackin' like crazy out there in their and playing in the water.

Ok I just did something that if anyone had seen me doing it they would have laughed me off the planet. The storm hit hard before I could get home to take care of the chickens. The wind was blowing so hard and lightening was horrible....I couldn't get to some little ones that I had just placed a few days ago in an individual pen...even though they were fully feathered. It finally let up enough for me to brave it....got to the pen and there lay 9 out of 12 little birds...lifeless....I was so mad.....

.... cause I've worked so hard to try to build up my birds...and snuffed out in a rain storm.

I got this hairbrained idea to go get my blowdryer...gathered up all those lifeless birds....went to my parents barn...our electric was off....and started blowing the heck out of those little buzzards....

All of a sudden there was movement....

Somehow, I managed to save 6 of the 9 that were lifeless. I mean their heads just flopped over when I picked them up the first time. My husband thought I was nuts... but whose laughing now....

Man, I'll never understand this chicken thing. I just wish my grandkids had been there to see this...they would have thought I was the cats meow bringing those birds around. LOL

I'm sure a number of you have had similar experiences like this...but it sure was a first for me.

Hey everyone, just checking in.

I got to go to a play last thursday at OU, it was called 'Is He Dead?' It was a really great show.

I'm hopping around eager about POOPS. I'll be bringing FIVE OTHER PEOPLE with me including my parents. I've got someone new I want you guys to meet!!!
Anyways, Can't wait, I've got to get off to check on my birds (for thw third time tonight). I've already had to pull down the window in the coop because they've put a hole in the screen.

luvs2garden - I can give you Ollie! He's a boy, but they both need buddies! Lol

OKRobin - That is some crazy rain! I went to my local ER twice w/ my stones. They basicly told me it was in my head. My parents finally drug me to a urologist in OKC, and they did an emergency surgery to remove it and repair everything. So my rule is, if you haven't passed it in 24 hrs, get to a specialist!

5 Days til POOPS!!

Weather.com shows us a sunny day with a high of 81! Can't wait!!

My 85 year old grandmother came home the other day to find a burglar still in her home. They left when she came in, but I'm worried they may come back. So if you don't mind, please keep her safety in your prayers. Thank you.

Donna I am the king of wet, lifeless birds. The fastest way to bring them back is to use warm water out of the tap being careful not to drown them. Towell dry and then use a blow-drier on them. Since the stream is larger I use the bathtub faucet.

And here is a bonafied redneck tip. Build brood-out pens about the same size as a car hood. It makes a great top and it takes one heck of a wind to blow it off!

P&B your inbox is full and I have one page, maybe two more to send you.

Henny the "classic pose" for Mareks is one leg forward and one behind while they use their wings to try to stay upright. Botulism will clear itself in a day or two.

Here is a recipe for a booster feed that will help her recover..

To help a bird recover from illness, they need extra protein.. this formula really helps them with thier recovery

My Treatment is this

“” This amount feeds one bird””

Feed the birds three times a day for three days a mixture of

This mixture is what you will need for the entire three feeds…. It is not 3 egg yolks and 3 teaspoons of honey etc…. divide the contents into three

½ to 1 x egg yolk….. give the whites to the other hens mixed into their seed or pellets (depends a lot on the size of the egg yolk)

1 teaspoon honey…. .given for energy

2 x tablespoons yoghurt…. Given for calcium and also to make the bowel go back into normal production after this upset
Only use the plain yoghurt never the one with fruit or extra sugar in it, not good for the bird

¼ teaspoon calcium powder (if you can’t get the yoghurt)

3 to 4 tablespoons rolled oats…. To give substance to the feed, or use chicken crumbles or layer pellets but soften them with some boiling water first

Sprinkle of multi vitamin powder (only if you are not already giving it to them in their drinking water, don’t overdose) just a few grains will usually be enough for this size mixture

2 to 4 table spoons of apple sauce or grated apple, it must be grated not chopped up for ease of digestion

Mix to make a crumble mixture not runny

If the bird is not eating you will have to force feed... roll into small pellets the same size as a layer pellet.... and force feed, and then massage the neck in a downward motion to get it down into the bired crop, make sure your keep the neck straight, its really hard getting someting down a neck that is bent or curved, the bird may be too weak to eat or have lost the desire to eat…. Don’t hold back…. The longer it goes without this the worse it will get

If you must give it something to drink – only give drops onto the beak or use the crop tube to get fluids down the throat, don’t try and pour any fluid down a chickens throat, it will more than likely go into the air passage and into the lungs and end up drowning the bird

This will give the bird a large dose of Vitamin D, C and A

After 3 days cut back to once a day for 2 weeks, you should notice the difference in 3 or 4 days

Give other food also, chick crumbles, grower crumbles or layer pellets depending on the age of the bird etc
Also have fresh water at all times for the birds to drink in easy reach, remember it is not well so it may not go looking for the food and water, so put it just about under its nose so it can’t miss it

I came home from Bible study tonight and culled her. She was flat out on her side both legs straight out. I thought she was dead. I go get my axe and as soon as I brought it down all the lights in the dang garage went out. I thought the wrath of God came down. I guess it doesn't matter what it was... nothing I can do now...

Thanks for all the help Les, I thought I could fix this one.
