I do but only by choice my DW is a very good cook for the simple things I on the other hand put forth the really good stuff LOL. we work well together in the kitchen like a well oiled machine. She is the baker in the family, we use it as our time to have some fun together.

Does anyone know of an available khaki campbell hen? One of my FB buddies had a dog get hers. She lives in Henryetta. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I am sick. Started feeling bad yesterday and it progressed. Fever, sore throat, achy, even my skin hurts. Sure hope it doesn't last long. Hard to take care of a little one when you feel like poo.

Morning Okies,

CleoChick, sounds like you have the crud. Sending you warm thoughts for a speedy recovery.

You all with the turkey talk are making me hungry and giving me lots of good ideas.

I'm curious if you raised them yourself or if you purchased them just for butchering. If you raised them, what do you think was the problem that caused the disappointing taste? Or do you think it was the breed?

I ask because after goats and rabbits, pigs are on our list for possible future home grown meat.

ETA:
OOPS! Forgot catfish. We are building a catfish tractor this weekend and picking up a hundred fingerlings from the fish truck when it rolls into town at the Lawton co-op come next Tuesday.

Hi Bigokie, Sorry I missed you last night. I had to hit the hay. Carah and Beth kept me up all night the night before chatting about Cochins and stuff.

I know they have to be finished off on the right feed or the meat doesn't taste as good, plus the texture is bad.
That is why my dad would never just buy one at a sale and then haul it to a processor. He would always feed it out.
When I was a kid a man gave dad a hog that had basically been slop fed.
Dad butchered it right mainly because we needed the meat. It wasn't very good. Dad never did that again.

Yes that is a good thought.

My biggest oops was when we were putting rafters on a house and I was walking them down the center of the house. Well there were some cuties across the street sunbathing and I didn't step over the opening for a hallway. Luckily I didn't hit anything on the way down.

I had to laugh at that one!!! Thanks Les! My biggie was painting my house back in 2000. My house in CA. was elevated some so the driveway was sloping. My great idea was to put an extension ladder on the front of the house to do the eaves. Had my mom holding the ladder. She was going on and on about how I was going to fall and bust my vertical smile. I finally got fed up and told her to go in the house. About a minute later the ladder went out from under me and I went down onto the cement. BY God's grace i din't break anything. My feet took the brunt of it and to this day ache like sin where the toes hook on. All I have to do is wear different shoes or get them cold. I sprained both ankles, a knee, an elbow and a shoulder. My feet turned black and swelled up huge and I wore my Scooby Doo slippers everywhere for 2 weeks. I didn't go to ER right away....since I could walk....Mike's brilliant idea was to put me in a hot bathtub. Doc ripped his butt later and told him he should have iced everything to bring down the swelling...instead the swelling went up. All I could do was sit in the tub and cry. 250 lbs hitting the cement in itself was bad!!!

:lau The hot bathtub was just wrong. I tell Mike to this day he was trying to kill me!

Beth was thinking about your 5th commandment thing most of the night. And MaryBeth you are right...haven't been eating well at all. I hate the guilt trips.....adds insult to injury. Didn't mean to whine all over you guys last night. Was having a pity party....just me and Jesus, and decided to invite y'all!! The range of emotions is amazing....when I get tired....it gets worse. They have definately upped my Mom's pain meds... this cold damp weather is not doing her any good. And she isn't smoking...hasn't for a week now....she's gotta be hurtin' lol.....So she's emotional too. I try to stuff it during the day when I'm there then sometimes it just comes out. Thanks for putting up with me....
