Les : Perhaps you could help me out on this question.

What is the main purpose of Lysine in poultry/Layer feed. does it have to do with Skin/feather quality ?, or a needed amino acid required for good shell and yolk formation ?.
I know that chickens are unable to produce Lysine in sufficient amounts but what is it's main reason.

First I noticed that the name of the website has the Korean word for MSG - ajinomoto - which I believe means flavor enhancer (but I don't speak Korean, so am just guessing) No relevance to anything, but it caught my attention after our recent discussion on MSG.

Secondly, the article said the use of lysine can reduce the amount of nitrogen excreted from the birds, thereby reducing pollution. Now THAT is something very interesting.

Les : Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for, Lysine is used in feed for the same purpose it is used in human nutrition during extreme physical training.

By the way what is the breed of that White upright standing bird in the second set of pic's, a shamo or an Asil perhaps, or american game.

I vaguely remember a Korean friend of mine saying it was closer to the essence of taste, or the spirit? of taste, and it's actually 3 words. Something like that. The company Ajinomoto Inc trademarked the word, and if I remember correctly they are the producers of MSG. Which, btw, I have reactions to every time I eat it.... migraine headaches.

The gov't and Commercial producers are looking into the links between reduced nitrogen emitters as it pertains to muscle development in Poultry and Swine created by reduced Lysine levels in feed.

I was looking into it because I was looking at formulating some different feeds for Growth stage development.

yes, my package of Aji No Moto has it as three words. It is interesting to know that there is a correlation between the product and the company's name.
