I raise them for meat and I lik'um!! I only raise Bobwhites because I like white meat, Georgia Giants and Tennesse Reds. If you decide to raise them you'll need a permit, contact your local game warden, he will have to come to your place and inspect your pens, fill out some paperwork for you to send in. A hobby permit will cost you $10 a year, a commercial permit will be $48. The commercial permit is only needed if you intend to sell birds or eggs to others.

What's a hobby permit for? I have Wood Ducks and I just got the Notice of Transfer or Sale of Migratory Waterfowl form from when I purchased them. I was told I didn't need any other paperwork unless I was to sell or giveaway eggs or birds. If I were to raise them to eat myself, I would not need a permit. Does quail fall under something totally different from the waterfowl?

I hope I'm not supposed to be doing something I'm not.

I gotta share my day today...folks outside of teaching think that there is no such thing as a dumb question...you need to spend a day with kids...trust me there are dumb questions.

Spent the last week and a half studying meosis...lecture, powerpoints, homework, day of studying, lab, whole nine yards and a final push for a 1st down...we had the test today...mind you I write assignments and what we do on the board...I let them study before the testbut the test is due at the end of the hour...child comes up and asks what chapter is the test over...I told him at this point it probably wasn't going to make a difference
he.gif

After the test i told them to read the chapter and make a list of things they understood and things they didn't...student asks if they should make the list before or after they read...I asked him how he would know what he did and didn't understand if he hadn't read it...he told me once he read it he would know it...from his test grade...he didn't read it

Wow Teach-- thats the breed I have been thinking on to! I want pgymy pouters. I don't like all the wierd looking ones that are all humped over! They look like they are deformed.I have seen the Pommerians and they are bigger than I like(real Tall)). I am hoping to find some parlor hens. The hawk killed three hens- thru the wire no less! And I have about 8-9 extra males,so I'll be looking for them. They have a pretty large sale area ,lots of those easterners bring in a lot to sell. I'll take pics for ya.

Sounds like you have a few real winners in your class.::lausmack What age group?

I promised some pic's of waterer heater bases, here is one of the kinds I like best, I have had it almost 5 yrs and it is still going strong.

I have a Lyon Turn X you may use if you use if you would like. It will hold 18 eggs and works great.

That is very sweet pepper! I appreciate the offer.

I have borrowed my aunts hova-bator still air since last August. They are not interested in hatching anything any time soon. I keep calling her to see if she minds if I keep theirs a little longer and longer.

She does not care because they lost their whole flockof chickens and guineas a couple months ago to some coons and does not believe they will have poultry again. I am just wanting to buy my own and quit being a borrower. Thank you so much for the offer!

Local news had story of woman from Tn. who was on vacation in Floria and got sick with a cold. Didn't want to ruin vaction so tried to tuff it out . It was H1N1,turned into pneumonia, and she died! Thing was she was young and in perfect heath. They said to take warning no one is out of danger from it! And to get the shots if you can. Also had another local death attributed to H1N1 this week. But We are haveing hard time finding shots in our area.
Sorry forgot ,I left out reference to poultry. So-- And if they all had chickens and waded thru poo and muck and cleaned fuzzy butts and doctored for all kinds of chicken ailments they might have been immune!!!!
