The Dept of Ag doesn't do that at every auction, but they do try and spot check the birds at auctions, since it wouldn't take much for a few infected birds at an auction to spread something across the state by virtue of people attending the auctions and possibly taking home infected birds. They are only doing tests for Avian flu and the NPIP test for pullorum and typhoid. I wish they tested for some of the things that cause the upper respiratory infections in our birds, but I don't know how easy a test like that would be to administer.

I might be the blame to that one. They asked me where the guy I got my turkeys from sold at. I knew he sold there and Jones and maybe Blarcherd, sorry guys.

There have been two men from the Dept of Ag spot testing at Chupps the last two auctions. Owner announced that they would be there at random times.

Shucks! Too far away too! When is the Shawnee show? We can get to that one!

The Shawnee show is December 12-13 - should I put you on the list?

The Ag Dept showing up kinda makes me worry... Are they really trying to help, or trying to shut down all our little chicken operations? I'm not tryin to start a big discussion war! I'm just sayin...

I have Jersey black giants and other standard size chickens; I also have a few bantams.

1/4cc for bantams and 1/2cc for large fowl, I give mine orally on a little piece of bread.

The Ag dept. is supposed to have a state vet for inspection at every critter auction. But when there are a few to cover in one area they usually just go to the largest one like OKC West or the Stockyards. There are way too few people to cover a lot of auctions.
