I have watched my broodies with their eggs and they will often spend quite a bit of time off the nest. I have actually had eggs that were cool to the touch in a nest and still hatch. The big incubators also mimic the cool down cycle daily and I have heard that the percentage of chicks that hatched actually went up a tad after they started doing that.

By artifically incubating eggs the results will be the best if we can mimic how they are taken care of by a broody hen. To get the best results what you will have to do is to take the basic knowledge of how it's done and then tweek a system that works best for you. Everyone that hatches has a system and often times it took a while to devolop it. Just keep at it and take good notes along the way of temp. changes you make or humidity or whatever. Even the outside weather can have an effect on hatching.

I moved the eggs around in the turner as best I could... but it was two off the first row closest to the fan that hatched first. Another one from that row has a pip. Wondering if my two thermometers were off and they were reading low, which would explain why the ones closest to the fan are the only ones hatching... they were the only ones cooled off enough.

Carla - I might have found someone that had some frillback pigeons and some wyandotts....chocolates or something...yup I got a few birds when I thought I was leaving on Wednesday.

City - Yes we are talking to him and he looks around occasionally. We are missing on son at this point but he is coming. He went to see his adoptive son who is spending some time at a boy's ranch (like how i put that) My little brother is really stepping up into a roll he doesn't have to fill...very proud of him!

Last night hubby and I went to eat with some of his family. They saw a friend there who asked if I was his little sister.

I said yes and gave him a big kiss. He laughed and we left. Am I ever gonna grow up!?

look at it this way...when you are 50 folks will think you are like 25! You could go with a different style of dressing...I am thinking tube tops and dasiy dukes! that or long wool plaids...might work...hair coloring...something in grey...how about that??? I try so hard!!!

Thanks Grace
I only have one older one left. Mr coon raider got my best one. I will be looking for another one too. I will keep my eyes and ears open. The ones Carah have arre only chicks that hatched in September.

City I had a chance to buy a beautiful, gorgeous outstanding simply spectacular Speckled Sussex hen today. I should have bought her for you or Caah but then I got distracted and forgot about her.
Of course you didn't want her anyway.
