Ironically, the honey from China is now being laundered through other countries, primarily Asian countries. I heard a speaker a few weeks ago and he showed how in the past few years, exports of honey from China have declined and exports of honey from some Asian contries have increased - way above the level of honey they report as producing.

We don't know what pesticides are permitted to be used in some countries, but we do know that bees bring pesticides back to the hive. Also, read the back label and make certain there isn't any corn syrup in the jar. You want pure honey - preferably raw. Raw honey never spoils - if it gets solid, it can be re-liquified by applying some heat - either put the jar in a pan with some water on top of the stove, or microwave it - no more than 45 seconds at a time - stirring it and then microwaving again for up to 45 seconds - until it is thin and liquid again. Of course, honey that is slightly thick won't fall off your bisquit as quickly as honey that is totally liquid.

That is excellent information! Thanks!

I've noticed that when eating out at severl fast food places that have packets of honey ... usually the first ingredient is corn syrup.

Oh, and we have some honey that has gone solid & yes, it does go back to liquid when heated. I was afraid to try the microwave to heat it but I might try that next.

Unfortunately, there is no national "Standard of Honey" so until the FDA decides to adopt one, each state is going to have to adopt their own standard, state by state. Florida was the first state to adopt a Honey Standard this past summer. It says that if there is anything other than "honey from the hive" inside the package, there has to be something on the front label, in letters as large as the word "honey" that identifies the product as being something other than pure honey. That will prevent honey flavored syrup from being represented as "honey". Right now, they have to list the contents on the back of the container and it is a violation of the truth in labeling laws if they fail to list any added ingedients, such as corn syrup. Unfortunately, most people never turn the container over - they just look at the front label - see the word "honey" check the price and take it home. They don't see that the container may contain honey from several different countries or that it may contain corn syrup.

Henny - So sorry I didn't warn you about the McDonalds! Don't go to Sonic either!

Someone had asked me if I'd ever been to the Express Cysdales Ranch. I've been by it several times when I was younger, but I've never actually been to it.

I did two things tonight that I'd never done before: scrambled eggs and made mashed potatoes! I'm definitely not a cook.

Hey has anybody heard from Stray lately? I know school's crazy for everybody right now, right before the holidays. Just hopin she's alright.

County - get one of those cookbooks off your shelf that has pictures in it - you probably got one when you got married. If you don't have a basic cookbook that has a recipe for everything basic, like a Betty Crocker Cookbook, then consider checking some out from the library to find one that is user friendly. You might want to even consider one for children, since those recipes are basic and don't have lots of spices or fancy ingredients. You can do this.

Henny - I am right beside you on the gravy mix. Besides, isn't it better to have gravy as opposed to either hot wallpaper paste or thin milk soup? Maybe you could use a mix from Shawnee mills - that way you would be supporting Oklahoma made products.

Here are the regulations from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. They are clear as mud if you are living on the land that you are hunting on. I suggest you call your local game warden or the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife.

Do I, and/or my family members have to purchase a hunting/fishing license if I'm hunting or fishing on my own land?

FISHING: Resident owners or tenants, their spouses, parents, grandparents, children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses who fish on land owned or leased by such owner or tenant do not have to have a fishing license.

HUNTING: Only resident landowners or tenants who reside on and hunt only on land owned or leased by them (not including hunting leases, and does not extend to relatives who reside off the property) are exempt from the hunting license for all legal game species.

Legacy Permit: Any person who is exempt from an annual fishing or annual hunting license is also exempt from the legacy permit while fishing.

Deer, antelope, elk & turkey: All hunters must purchase a license to hunt these species even if they are hunting on their own land.

Waterfowl (Ducks, Geese, Teal): All hunters must still purchase a $15 federal waterfowl permit (sold at post offices), however, resident landowners are exempt from purchasing a state waterfowl stamp when hunting on their own land.

Coots & Sandhill Crane : Hunters hunting sandhill crane are not required to have either the state or federal waterfowl permits (stamps), however they must still obtain the sandill crane permit ($3.00) from the Wildlife Department or any license dealer even if they are hunting on their own land.

HIP permit: Harvest information permits are not required of resident landowners who hunt for migratory birds (dove, ducks, geese, sandhill cranes, coots, woodcock, rails, gallinules and snipe) if they are hunting solely on their own property.

I actually did not get a cook book when I got married! Clark is the cook, and he just throws things together without recipes, turns out fantastic. I am a baker, I absolutely love making cakes! I keep asking for a cake decorating kit.
