I don't watch that stuff. We spent 3 days wondering about my aunt and uncle (both worked in tower 2). Luckily their train was late, so they were just arriving as the plane hit. Took 3 days to get a working cell phone signal through the city. Btw, my mom is a "New Yor-ican", a Puerto Rican born on Long Island, NY.

Yeah, we were worrying about my uncle who works at the Pentagon. He was all right as well, he was out of the office that day at a meeting else where, but it took us a few days before we found out. My husband is a history buff and a history teacher so he is the one who chose the program.

Ideal has standard breeds year round. I got 50 chicks about two weeks ago. They shipped Dec. 2nd and the postmaster called me at 6:45 the next morning to tell me to come get them.

Good morning Okies. Well today will be a day of building, hopefully. My DH and I picked up another incubator yesterday. That puts us at a grand total of 3 incubators, 2 for incubating and 1 for hatching. Got it cleaned up and turned on to see if we need to fix anything. Looks like somebody had already rebuilt most of it, new wafers and heating element so trying to see how stable it is. I have one just like it already, but the heating element is in the bottom and the ffan is on top. they have rewire this one so the heating element is on top and best I can tell the top trays are alot warmer than the bottom so I will probably put mutt eggs in top and bottom as a test hatch before I really start using it.

Good morning

I couldnt sleep last night much all I did was toss and turn and dream up ways to lower our costs of living here at the farmstead...lol. Then I schemed about how I can get our 30yr fixed mortgage down to something lower with out actually adjusting it going to the mortgage company itself, ya know refinancing ect (pretty much plotted in the same way I did to pay off my Truck) tee hee. I have even whipped out some of my antique books I have on Pioneer living... lol.

Anyhoot enough on the downer side of living in "expensive" times. Hoping today will be a decent enough day to burn, even though we had been burning on what seemed like every other weekend or so, we still didnt make a huge dent in that area of clean up. So as you might guess it that is what I hope for us to do today if its not windy. I also got to thinking more on our chickens, that before to long our girls will be laying.... (I cant believe how big they have all grown in the last month or so) and we will be needing nesting boxes in their coop. Cruella has been laying an egg on these nicer days but she checks them out into the corner of the coop.lol, but I know once them other girls go to lay, there is no way I wanna run the risk of stepping on them, that would be just nasty.lol.

Anyhoot I think I best be getting off here and get back to plotting about my property and the finances...

Oh it is a required class that has to do with finance. Thank goodness it is only a 2 day class. Was hoping to be sneaky and play on the laptop but that won't happen. I have to actully do stuff in there.

I got 1. Stupid chickens!

My brown leghorn is the only one I can really tell is not laying - I haven't had a white egg in Quite Some Time. I figure I've been lucky that the cold weather and shorter days haven't affected my flock too much as yet, although I've noticed signs that a couple of them are about to molt (if we were in the UK I'd have typed 'moult'), so maybe they'll slack off soon. I did put a 60W daylight bulb in their coop on a timer - it comes on at 5:00 a.m. and goes off at 7:30 when the sun comes up. They wake up, hit the feeder and get to work! Oh, and I hold regular company meetings to stress the importance of keeping production up in these hard times and to recognize top performers.

I get anywhere from 8 to 18 eggs a day. Sometimes more white and sometimes more brown.
