Well, even Gerald's big 'ol 6 wheel drive, ex-Army truck doesn't do well in an Okie blizzard. He decided to start it up and drive it down the street & then if it did well enough he was going to call up our police dept. to see if they could use some help. Unfortunately, 5 foot snow drifts & slippery road are a bit too hazardous. He only made it up the road, a few houses past ours & got stuck in a snow drift. He walked back home, got his tractor & luckily found a neighbor to help him dig the truck out and pull the truck just enough out of the snow to get going again. I don't know how to drive his tractor and I don't know how to drive that truck! Anyway, he busted an airline on the truck, but that's fixable. Gosh, I'm thankful he made it home safe & I'm so sorry I encourgaged him to get out in the blizzard

The newsman on TV just said it's officially a record-breaking snow storm. 14.1 inches at Will Rogers Airport. It's a record for December snow and a record for how much it snowed in one day.

Gosh, it is true about the persimmons, isn't it?

Glad you and Gerald are both home where it is safe and warm. Hard to think about a truck as large as the green monster getting stuck, but multi-wheel drive doesn't help when there is a layer of ice beneath the snow.
DH tied a tire on the front of the truck before we left tonight, with the intention of being able to help some folks if he saw them stuck. He did get to push one car up a slight incline, using his tire to cushion their bumper, but when he tried to help a second car and pulled around it to see if they would accept help - he pulled right into a knee deep snow drift and because he stopped to talk to them, he lost the momentum he needed to get himself out. We discussed going home after the tractor since we were about a mile from the house, but fortunately didn't have to do that. I have been listening to the news about all the stranded vehicles along the various streets. It seems that many of us thought that by going slowly, we would "be alright."

Hopefully, now that the snow has stopped, we will be able to shovel paths and have them stay shoveled. The drifts around the barn doors have been our biggest challenge. Sure am glad for tall rubber boots.

Prayers go out for those who are traveling and those that have to work.
Henny - particularly praying for Mike and his safety as he works outside in this nasty weather.

My son called awhile ago. He was out playing in the snow again. It's entirely too freakin cold for me out there. I love the snow but I'll enjoy it from through the window of my living room.

Well We ended up with about what OKC did 13 to 14 inches.
I hope history doesn't repeat this year.
Two of the biggest snow totals in OKC happened about three weeks apart when I first moved here.
The first hit the day after our wedding in December of 1987 and the second one was three weeks later in January on my birthday.
Of course neither was quite as big as today.
Glad everyone is safe at home.
We are gonna try and dig out tomorrow to make the family Christmas rounds.

I just finished watching White Christmas. Sorry everyone, but it looks like I got my wish this year!

I hope everyone is home safe and warm! Hubby helped un-stuck a few cars today. Sister's bf was charging ppl $20 to get them out. Lol. I got out of the truck to help push someone's car; fell right on my butt, hit the back of my head on the truck, then the door shut on my face. After my nose started hurting I made the realization I was on the ground. And of course mother in law laughed at me and walked off...

All my chickens got dry, I cleaned out their house, filled it up with dry bedding, blocked all the snow entrances... They are now protected by a 3.5 foot drift, so I think they'll be fine. The Silkie wasn't doing so good though.

She sat in front of the propane heater for a while to get dry; I'm keeping her in the house with me for a while.

I took lots of pictures of how bad the weather was, but after seein how pretty Henney's pictures were, I just don't want to post mine! We haven't seen sunshine at all today, but the snow has been beautiful!

Well I finally got off my butt and shoveled off the front porch so I didn't have to stand in a snowdrift to smoke. Now I'm sitting in front of the computer with a big cup of hot coffee, knitting on a washcloth that's almost done.

Might work on a scarf next... napped this afternoon while it was snowing and totally jacked up my sleep schedule.

Mahonri...yes we do have chickens...and ducks, guineas, turkeys, pigeons, etc. But most of all we yap a lot because we just enjoy each other and care about each other.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FELLOW OKIES....Hope all are in where it is safe and warm. I am not wanting to be up at this hour but my DH decided to start singing in his sleep and woke me up. I'm about to practice my chicken kneck wringing skills on him. LOL

Anyway, I got up and was worried about the birds wondering if I had any left and lo and behold my old faithful roo let me know he was alive and well. LOL I don't know how he could muster up a crow in that cold but I guess he has a job to do and didn't want to let his ladies down.

I haven't had time to get on since I've had a house full of company since last Friday. We've celebrated 2 anniversary's and 2 birthday's this past week. And today the most important day of all we will celebrate our Saviour's birthday. I pray that each of us take time out to reflect on the reason we are celebrating this time of year. Maybe God thought we needed to slow down and get quiet for awhile to reflect on why we should be celebrating so he sent this wonderful blanket of snow. It sure has slowed everything down. I know it has ruined a lot of peoples plans but as we are everyone can make new plans. We're having to postpone my family get together off until mid January due to everyone's schedules. Our immediate family consist of around 45 so it will be difficult to round everyone up again.

Anyway, everyone have a fun filled day, be safe and warm, eats lots of good food, play games, etc. I can't wait until my grandbabies get up to look for what Santa brought them. I got to read "The Night Before Christmas" to the 3 year old girls last night before tucking them into bed. They went right to sleep. It was so cute...oh what fun to be a "Memaw".

We were laughing last night that we may have to tie a rope onto the deck and hang on when we go to take care of the birds. HOwever, I'm not sure how easy it will be to even get there. The drifts are HUGE. We moved 13 young silkies into the shed where we keep our grown silkies and their babies. I knew the roos would stir things up but we had to find some room in the inn to keep them safe. I'm sure things are a bit crowded but you do what you got to do. I'm sure the roos are saying MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME with all those teenage silkies put in there. LOL

I can't wait to go play in the snow. Gotta try the 4 wheeler out.

Good Morning! Everyone have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I brought in a pair of WLR cornish last night and put the whites under a light to help keep them warm. I think everything else will be ok but all this weather, I wonder why I have all my critters. LOL

I will have to go out and break ice for the horses and put out some hay. It is going to be a busy and cold morning. I do enjoy them though
