Hi Here is a answer to the one with the thief getting their chickens . My husband is a trapper if your using a foot trap and you think its a coon then you will have to hide the trap because they are very smart they love vanilla extract on dog food (dry) its kinda hard to hide it in the snow because it wont go off with snow on top so i would suggest a live trap. A Opossum will eat anything and are very easy to catch. But if you have a 6ft fence and the only way they could get in is over it then it was probly a big strong coon or a hawk or owl (since you dont have a net on top. I had that problem and still do with the hawks, falcons and owls. Not much you can do about that except put net on top and keep them locked up until they go away. They will be back. If its a hawk etc. you will find your birds not far from where they got them and the feathers will be tore up and part of it eaten. I have lost alot of ducks and geese to coyotes , coons and opossums and hawks. early mornin is when the hawks will try to get them you will have to watch and wait. take your gun sorry for your loose and Good luck! hope some of this helps:thumbsup

It is unusual for older birds to get Cocci, they should already be immune to the strains that you have there on your place.

Just got bit by the chickenphobe this last year. I understand there is no cure?! A divorced friend gave me his birds and the children and I are hooked. We recently traded for an incubator and I have a hatcher and another incubator in the works on another trade.

Les I didn't know I was in the market for seed, think you were talking to Q.

After reading your post, I might be in for some winter rye or something.....As long as it is safe for the horses.

Q great job on the incubators, I'm jealous!! I will be looking hopefully after the first of the year.

Disclaimer: this is a group of wonderful folks, many of whom have addictions to hatching poultry, poultry auctions and acquiring poultry. If you have already been bit by the chicken addiction, you will not find much assistance on this thread for kicking the addiction, but will find many helpful folks who will enable your addiction, answer your questions - poultry related and sometimes otherwise, and encourage you when you need encouragement.

lOL, no problem here, I might be interested or maybe next year.

Got to love the grandkids and I am sure they are stuck in the house too. LOL.

I spent sometime outside today, it was cold but with coveralls it wasn't bad. I won't have to water for another 2 or 3 days. Believe it or not, I am now getting eggs everyday. With no added light.

so, since she got some warm clothing for Christmas, how many times have you had to put it in the dryer - while she warmed up so she could go outside and play some more in the snow?
