Good night everyone and stay warm!!!!

Good evening everyone!
Sounds like everyone is getting ready for the cold. Made two water warmers tonight and will get them set up tomorrow. You know I have only lost a couple of young ones to this weather so far but I have been feeding my birds Bluebonnet's Game Cock Conditioner mixed with layer crumbles and they are at least keeping the weight on. The Game Cock Conditioner has pellets in it that is about 20% protein but it also has cracked corn, milo, dried peas and sunflower seeds. It is about $15 per 50 bag but they seem to do well on it.

I do have a question for those of you in the know. Is it alright to give chickens peanuts and/or peanut butter? Several people mentioned giving their birds stuff that has a lot of protein and oil, peanuts and peanut butter has a lot of both plus carbohydrates they need for extra energy. I am worried the peanut butter might stick in their beaks but peanuts should be ok. Right?
If so I think I have a line on some cheap peanuts which could be crushed a little and added as a side dish. hehehe

Well, sorry to ninja post but this cold weather is making my back, hips and knees ache something awful. Everyone stay warm and have a wonderful night.

Evening, Everyone,

A student's grandmother needed to re-home some roosters, so I agreed to help. If anyone out there falls in love with these guys, send me a PM and you can have him (or all of the hims) as my gift to you. You can have four hims for the price of none.

I can't tell what breeds are involved, only that they are many and mixed. The white rooster has green legs and a floppy single comb, I think. It was getting dark when I unloaded them.

Three of the roosters are brownish, and two of the three have beards. One has orange legs, and I think the other two have green legs. They ate and drank with gusto as soon as I got them into their new pen. One has a pea comb, and the others have floppy single combs. What a motley bunch. I've never kept mutts before. DH suggested we let them free range during the day and hope they come in at night, or not.

What do you think they are?????? Love at first sight, anyone????

For all of the BYC members that love to put up honey, jelly etc. There will be over 500 cases of 24 oz jars 12 per case all brand new jars. These came from a bee keeper here in Oklahoma. Be a time to save some money for all of those projects.

Apparently I'm just not anywhere near ready to go to sleep... I just put in this week's breakfast muffins (simple egg muffins, egg/italian seasoning/shaved turkey meat/cheese in a muffin tin for 25 minutes at 375 degrees). They're my protein on the go food for the mornings because I just don't have enough time to cook and eating carbohydrates (cereal) at my desk simply makes me even MORE hungry before lunch! Bad thing is, they take 30 minutes to cook, then they gotta cool before ya put them in the fridge. Guess I'm up for at least another hour!

you know- in rescue groups they set up a ferry system, people taxi critters to the next closer person, eventually getting them to the destination- we need to see if thats an option with folks here- love that middle one, but don't need more roos...

PoCo looks like you looks like you have some EE's on your hand. Are they bantam or standards? I like the white one. Wish I was closer(by about 3 states!Lol). They look pure to me. Thats the great thing about EE's ,they can be all colors. Cross one with anything and you might get blue egg layers!

Ka-Ben. Are you getting this cold like the rest of us? we are going into single digits tonite. Looks like no relief for at least a week. U.S. is going to get the next ice age apparently.

Sooner I'm with you, once my hands are wet and cold,I'm done for! I hate that cold hand pain,it will bring you to your knees!

Wayne from accross the country. I almost hate to tell you but no, it was mid 60's today and the 7day forecast looks about the same. The nights have been close to or at freezing though. I was just checking in again before crashing. Good luck all with the low temps and animals and all.
