Okies in the BYC The Original

Stray dogs got two of my roosters today. The dogs tore the electric fence box off its post and then pulled on the doors of the pens until they broke the hinges. Efficient and deadly. I hate stray dogs. DH is traveling for work, so he consoled me over the phone and reminded me to check the load in my revolver. I generally have varmint shot as the first round and regular ammo for the rest. The dogs were still on the property when I got home from work. Now I'm wishing I hadn't run them off by throwing rocks. I put some chicken from the freezer out to defrost, to use for bait, just in case they come back when I'm home. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but the country is not a dumping ground for unwanted pets!!!!!! We've had strays wander onto the property before, but they've always respected the electric fence. I don't like to kill animals I'm not planning to eat, but these two are toast if they come after my birds again. Rant, rant, rant.... Stray dogs are more dangerous to my flock than coyotes. Why is this true?

Chuck...I am just about pooped out. I hauled hay until I began to feel like horse. LoL I packed those chickens in good...don't want to loose any of them like last time. I sure like the looks of those pens.

I don't know whose idea it was on how to make those 5 gallon bucket feeders but I'd just about kiss their feet for sharing the idea. I filled those suckers to the top for the chickens. Got to make a couple more tonight so we don't have to worry about any of the birds.

hello everyone hey Donna im going to have to take a look at those feeders and waters you made. i might want to make a few.

im not looking forward to this weather. i dont really think im prepared as i should be.

I didn't really do much to prepare for the storm. All of the birds did great during the last storm. We just used some foam sealer in the cracks on the north wall of the coop and everyone got a good layer of bedding. Everyone will be in lockdown while it is precipitating. They will be allowed out after the wet stuff stops falling. I didn't even put gas in my car. I have been given the rest of the week off because of the storm and the kids are out of school. I don't figure I'll be taking my little car anywhere. We will be using the pickup. We loaded the bed down with RR crossties that were on the property when we moved in. We can get gas even if the store is closed or the electricity is out, so we're not too worried about that. Hubby did bring home some indoor propane heaters in case power goes out. Our house has one propane heater in it, but is mainly heated with electric. The cookstove is propane, so we'll be able to eat. We plan on filling some buckets up if we lose power. We are on city water and will have some time until the generator and the water plant gives out.
