So can I. At least with a stray, it is an animal that would likely be put down by animal control if taken in, anyway.

I understand it, but I don't like the idea of having to kill any dog myself, though. That's why I have electric around the perimeter of my property and four dogs (three of them are Great Pyr/Anatolian mix) of my own to keep them out if they should make it past that. That also makes it so I don't have to kill any wildlife, either. Coons and possums stay far away from my birds, and so far even coyotes haven't bothered us.

A good LGD is about the best deterrent I can think of against predators of all sorts.

I don't usually sign on or off, but will tonight so y'all won't worry about my power situation. We seem to have survived the worst of it. From here on it is supposed to be snow, if anything. That won't make us lose power, will it?

Gotta go. Have some excellent books to read! Be safe, and see you tomorrow.

Thanks for letting us know - the thing to worry about now is wind, if there is any ice on your electric lines. They are not designed to wave madly in the breeze when heavy with ice.

P&B - I guess we won't be making a road trip to see you this weekend

The 4 H Share the Fun was canceled to boot, and they are NOT planning on rescheduling.
We will be in Perry OK on the 8th at a goat show if the weather isn't horrible. Where is Perry?

Teach - I have 14 ducks of all make and model. Come take you pick!!!

Hey everyone Queen Scoot is getting a house!!!!! I don't know if you remember she had to move because the landlord didn't pay the mortgage. I took care of her chickens this summer and then adopted them because she couldn't have them where she moved.
Well her new house has a big back yard and she can have her girls back! Well I have her girls but due to predators, weathers and such I no longer have the roosters. We need to make sure she is hooked up on birds!

Still no bad stuff here. 29 degrees outside.

Oh I think I have lost my gourd!! We went to Foyil a couple of nights ago and brought home 2 bottle baby goats.

Perry is West of Stillwater, so we may be able to work something out on the rabbits since that is much closer to OKC than Miami.

Delighted that Queen Scoot is getting a house at long last. Hens are the hard things to replace. Roosters are much easier to find. What kind of roosters will she be needing?

Regarding bottle baby goats, now is the time to have them in the house. They will keep you entertained and it is easy to keep them in a dog crate and feed them when necessary, rather than going outside to take care of them. Just be careful regarding future training if any of them are bucks. My boar bottle buck never got past the concept that he was too big to be a lap animal and when he got over 150 lbs, it was difficult to maintain control over him so that he wouldn't "nudge" us and knock us over. We finally took him back to the man who gifted him to us, because he was from good bloodlines but we couldn't manage him. I should have listened to hubby and made the buck a "touch me not" as soon as he was off the bottle.

May have spoken tooooo soon.... Just came back in.
The trees are loaded with ice and crackling with each
gust of wind. We're getting a mix of rain and sleet
now. Wish it would change over to just snow.

So, y'all take care and stay warm.

The black headed one is a doeling and the one with the spots on it's back is a buckling for now. He will be wethered at 3-4 months old. Hopefully they will grow out nicely for Shaun to show them. These are Nubian/Boer cross.
They have been quite entertaining. we take them outside to be goats and run and play and then into the house for a bottle and to bed. They are fed every 5 hours, it's hard on this body, especially EARLY in the morning.

Queen Scoot had a Large Fowl Brown Leghorn which I took to keep from being enchiladas ( he was a little aggressive in a pen).
Then a beautiful big mix lineage rooster named Willow. He may have had some EE.
She said closing would be in 7-10 days I figured we could have her all set up by spring. The only rooster I have right now is Roo-Roo a big Langshan rooster I got from Cuban. He follows me around looking for treats. As if I would hand out treats. UMPH!!

That would be wonderful to meet in Perry to get Roscoe a mate. We are looking forward to getting to see you again.

Stay safe

Neecy

Hey guys just checking in to see how you all are fairing... We lost power around 12pm and we have alot of our trees damaged or split in half from the weight of the freezing rain. Jason picked up a generator today, we are running it for a few hours to heat up the house before we shut it off.... I do hope our chickens do well especially the sickies we have in the shop. Our horses were pretty spooked with all the crazy weather today and didnt like all the tree branches breaking off all around them, dont blame them for being frightened.

Anyhow I hope you all are doing ok and are being safe in this weather... Love ya all you chickens

Not sure how soon we will have power via outside sources than our generator so my computer availability will be limited...

Hey girl! Perry Goat show? We have our local show that day or we would be there. Nubian / Boer cross? Huh? Usually you don't want any milk goat influence in your meat goats. We have a Savanah / Boer cross...it finished really well but just never had the size it needed...we are hoping it does well in the mid weights. We have another goat that is really framey...not sure we will get it finished...we went for a couple looks not knowing for sure what the judges would be looking for!

We are getting into that darn that is alot of snow area! The boys went out and moved some birds that decided to roost in an area that was becoming a snow drift!

I have baby ducks if anyone is interested. I just got 8 babies out of the bator today. I already have close to 30 ducks and I NEED to get rid of them. If this weather ever clears up I'm going to put them on Craigslist.
