Les, is the Komondor one of the breeds whose coat "locks up" when they get a certain age to provide a matted, dreadlock type protection? Or am I thinking of something else - I know the Puli coat does it, but I thought there was a white-colored breed of dog that had a similar coat type.

You are thinking of the right one Beth, The Puli are cute little things about knee high and the Komondors are about waist high with way cool dredlocks. The Komondors are white and in a natural setting as flock guardian the coat will pick up twigs and such through the year and add to their stealth approach as guardian. Many of the breeds like the Pyranese and Anatolian use barking as a deterrent to predators, the Komondor doesn't and it will not leave the flock to go after predators either. Coyotes are famous for drawing off dogs while another comes in from the other side to get a meal. The coat is also protection against attack, on the 9mo pups she had there I really had to work my way down with my fingers to feel bare skin and even then I am not sure I hit it.

Oh and I guess I should say that the proper term is a corded coat.

Good evening Everyone,

Had a lovely hilarious time at Trivetts this evening for supper... been a long while since we ate out with a 3 year old... we were rolling on some of the things she was saying..

I cant wait for you all to meet her she is quite the conversationalist...

Jeannie

Hope everyone who went to the auction is having fun...

Hi peoples. I am here for a short time. Houston won the Conference USA tournament - they were seeded 7 and upset number 1 UTEP in the final this morning. It was a good game (basketball, for the uninterested who have bothered to read this far). Then I went over to the "take back America" rally/concert/speech thingy and hung around backstage. At one point while I was watching Sarah Palin on stage John Rich was on one side of me and Gretchen Wilson was on the other side. I guess they didn't recognize me 'cause neither of them asked me for my autograph... I also bought chick starter this evening.

Teach, you owe Maribeth, Al, Carl and probably others big time. They were on a mission for you for sure.
All I did was point out the Asils.
It was great seeing and visiting with everyone.
I made a great buy on some NN hens but I wasn't gonna pay $22 bucks for Welsummer hens so I didn't buy any of those. Some sold for less but they weren't the best quality.
I am not like Al and Michael who can thrive with little or no sleep. I am going to bed.
Monty

Got home from Blanchard, gave food and water to all of Teach's birds and put all but the American moderns into homes where they can remain until Teach gets them at POOPS, fed and watered the rabbits, pulled eggs from the incubator to the hatcher and am heading to bed. I seem to have lost some time somewhere in the process.... about an hour as close as I can tell

We had a great group of BYC folks at Blanchard this evening and I enjoyed visiting with Jer-man, OSUKrazyKate and her sister, Stephanie and Carl, Al, Gerald, Monty, June Bug, FunChick, Luvs2bmemaw, and Michael D. Saw OldTownChickens, but didn't get to visit - they were carrying quantities of birds out after the auction, saw BethinOklahoma and the two youngest daughters - Beth, there were sure a lot of incubators for sale this evening that went for good prices......

Jerry, Thank you for leaning the long table against the wall with chairs blocking it, so we could set it up when we arrived. That worked out exceptionally well.

Doc and Peaches, we missed you. Jer-man will be bringing you the John Deer fabric from June Bug to the Fletcher auction.

Carla we missed you this evening. Between Gerald, Al and Monty, I thought I was going to laugh and cough myself to death. Everytime I started laughing, I started coughing.

Just for the record, I did not buy any birds or rabbits. I bought more eggs than my incubator will hold so will have to set up the auxillary incubators tomorrow, but for myself I didn't buy any birds or rabbits. Any birds purchased using my bidder number will be rehomed at the home of Teach. Thank you Al, Monty and Stephanie for faciliting the purchase of his birds. I didn't have a clue what I was looking for.

Our granddaughter is here for spring break. She helped me move the chicks from the basement brooders out to the barn brooders. We used large plastic totes, so it only took two trips. She's going to help cut out some more hen aprons, and I'm going to show her how to use my sewing machine (she has her own at home, but mine's nearly an antique compared to hers), so she may be bringing some of her own hen aprons to POOPS.

We're headed to church in a little bit. After church we're planning to go to Lowe's for building supplies so we can make two or three pens this week.

For those of you who recently made chicken purchases, post some pictures. We non-auction goers feel left out.

Good Morning Okies.

Hope everyone had a great time at the auction. SORRY we missed the jovial time, I always like the socialization with fellow chicken folk.. Peaches was cracking the whip yesterday for me to finish the new chicken pens. Getting closer and should be finished in another day or so.

Peaches and Hot Dog are catching up on beauty sleep, I would if I slept. Besides, I've got them, what do I need with beauty anyway.

We were going to butcher the hog yesterday but I think the pens took priority over eating is what I was told anyway.

Peaches is going to clean out another incubator and get it fired up again.

I'm telling you, she is a slave-driver.

Even the incubators don't get a day off.

Hot Dog just got up and came over to me with a John Deere tractor saying I want my own house. Where did that come from?

Yep, I think "Hi-Jacker" should be my new name, what do you think?
