MAllen in this group is a photographer also. He owns the Hubble telescope or something like that and takes pictures of outer space. His chicken pics are the best though. I used to be a sports photographer but that was long ago.
A lot of us meet up at auctions to visit and enable each other with birds.
Lots and lots of really nice cool folks. I live near Choctaw and we have folks from all over the state.
Poultryand Bees has a standard disclaimer to help warn you of our behavior. (Some are enablers.)
The National Poultry show is in Shawnee in December. Many thousands of birds will be there. You might check into being a photog there.

You have found a wonderful group of folks in Oklahoma and/or would like to be in Oklahoma, who raise poultry, hatch eggs and attend poultry auctions. In fact, some of us are "addicted" to those things.

Disclaimer: Since addicts tend to be enablers, some of us may try to get you also addicted to hatching eggs, acquiring poultry and attending poultry auctions.

Several folks have cochins - check signature lines. OkCarla has the Spitzhaubens.

Check the signature line of Al517 for a link to more information about our Oklahoma get together on May 1 at the KOA in Choctaw. We hope you will be able to join us. This will be our third get together and I don't think anyone who likes chickens failed to have a good time. It is very children friendly also.

You have certainly found the right place! Several people on this Okie thread have goats and you may become the resident Okie Goat Expert! Please please do come to our get-together the first of May. The organized festivities (auctions, raffle, stuff for kids, FOOD!!, entertainment, etc.) are on Saturday - starting about 9:00 a.m. You are more than welcome to spend the night - it's at a KOA campground, so if you call and reserve a space you can pitch a tent (info below). There are also several hotels not too far away. Also - there's no charge for coming to POOPS, but we'd appreciate it if you bring a dish to contribute to the pot luck meal. We welcome all kinds, so come as you are and feel free to bring friends.

99. I swear our runner ducklings would talk about us. I kept them in a rubbermaid container on top of my dog's crate in the living room. There was a period before we had a place outside for them that they were tall enough to look out of the container. Jeff and I would be watching a movie, and we'd notice them looking at us. Then they would "down periscope" and it sounded like they were talking about us. Then it would turn into laughing. We got a huge kick out of it.

it is hillarious! now i know i gotta get some ducks- how do you integrate them with chickens??

meanwhile, haven't seen any guinea eggs yet- but they sure have been busy runnin from one end of the property to the other!

Yo Monty! I was there - in the control booth making sure the video feed made it to the center hung and 360 ribbon boards and making sure the lights on the floor were on and making sure the PA announcer's mic was on. I'm loading in another show this week at another place - starts at 7:30 a.m., so I should already be in bed but I missed everyone so much last week I'm hanging out a few more minutes.

edited to add: You know I'm good for promoting stuff!

Robin...I have ducks with my chickens and they don't either one of them care. They all get along fine. The only time I've had any trouble was when there weren't enough female ducks around and I had a couple of ducks didn't care what they went after, chickens and all. LOL

Thanks Cityclucks! I'd love to talk goats with anyone. I've had around 50 hrs of continuing education in goat health and am teaching 2 clinics at Sallisaw Tractor supply April 3rd. I love my goats dearly and several of my chickens I feel much affection for too. The rest are pure entertainment value. My favorite part of my day is watching my bottle baby goat having to wait to go back into her little brooder home because one of my crazy game hens is in there laying. After a well placed peck she's learned to wait for the hen. More stories to share at the event!

Sure had a great time at Blanchard last night. I got my fix on getting to see my chicken friends. Didn't buy a thing...just had a great time visiting.

Word of Warning....DO NOT...I repeat..DO NOT ...stand next to Al and ask for help on bidding on anything. If he tells you to put your hand up...SMACK HIM! He just about got me into trouble last night...and he just about got to pay for that trouble. LOL

Can't wait to get to go again. Have a great day tomorrow folks. NIght.

Hi everyone!

Sorry I missed so much fun at the Blanchard auction last night. I hate having to work overtime.

Gerald told me I had better not miss another Blanchard auction. I don't care how much they pay me to sit there, I'm calling in sick and going to the next Blanchard auction!

Oh well, I wouldn't have been good company anyway since I had to let my German Shepherd be put down. He had a tumor on his brain and couldn't walk anymore & was in pain.

I still don't know if I did the right thing. Maybe I should have just doped him up on pain pills & not taken him to vet.

We listed some birds for sale on craigslist and I've been answering the phone & messages all day. Oh, and I put some eggs on the BYC auction too. I need to put more on, but I just don't have the time.

Well, now it's time for me to look back at all the posts on here to see what I've missed. I'm starting to get very sleepy though.
