Poco, if you are looking for cockerels as City says, I have a couple of extras. One was hatched July 31 and the other looks like he is almost a year old. Big fella but a little too aggressive for my place. I can send one or both of them to POOPS with somebody if you are interested.

City I have decided against going the dual purpose rout. I will have lines for meat and a line for eggs, and while we may eat the eggs from the meat birds or the meat of the egg birds, those will not be their "purpose".

But to answer your question, City, we haven't yet entirely decided on a particular egg or a particular meat bird. We will be experimenting this spring with Cornish, Freedom Rangers, Buckeyes, and Delaware for meat, and with Marans and productions Reds for eggs. Might play around with another dark egg layer like Wellsummers.

I envy you the space you have to experiment in that regard - sounds like fun to me!

(It is all fun, until someone doesn't tighten the lid on the water jar....I'm so sorry Donna - what a terrible thing to find, and heaven knows I've made enough of those kinds of mistakes - I hope your day gets better.)

Well, I have silver laced wyandottes, barred rocks, white rocks, a splash polish, golden campines, and dark cornish. I'm gonna show my campines and cornish in 4-H. I would also like to breed some of my chickens together and see what I get. I just got chickens last fall so I am new to chickens, but everyone in my family asks me questions about chickens because I have studied them, but I still have alot to learn.

Edited to remove age reference

Welcome Chichenman98. I think it's cool that you're on here. If you stick around on this sight you're bound to learn a whole lot from some of these folks. They are the worlds smartest people about chickens.

had a few sprinkled but nothing major ....yet. Our goats are scheduled to be picked up between 6-7 the kids have opted to be at my friends house when that happens.. they are afraid they will cry and be to upset to see them actually go... so our special Friend and I are here at the house just waiting (SF is napping while I put on a fresh coat of paint in my kitchen... ) then will head back to my friends house to put a second coat of paint on her sun room...

Donna sorry to hear about your babies

Hi guys! just got back from having a great visit with Doc & peaches and the infamous Hot Dog! Had a great time- gave them my cochin girl who decided to ride on my lap, instead of the sheet in the back seat- only went back there to keep my clothes clean- now is that a cool chicken or not?? and she had a burito for lunch....LOL!

got home and the ducklings had gotten out and were wandering around in the kitchen, one had a thread hanging out of his bill, so i pulled as much as i could out and cut the end, was afraid to tug too much- hopefully he'll digest it...

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Looking at the kinds of chickens you have it appears you are well on your way to becoming addicted to acquiring poultry. Do you have an incubator? We could get you hooked up with hatching eggs and make a hatching addict out of you.

I like the Stigler area. We have property close to Eufaula Dam and used to spend many an hour in the Stigler Wal-Mart before they changed it to a Super Wal-Mart. I still prefer to go to Stigler rather than Checotah when we need to make a trip "into town"
