Okies in the BYC The Original

Somehow I am hoping that Buster comes back saying all of that was just an "A p r i l Fool's" joke. I sure hope so. Although, it wouldn't shock me that it actually happened. We have taught our kids, the same as our parents taught us, how to shoot a gun. Some people might object, and that's okay, but Lauren knows how to shoot a .22 rifle. She may be four years old, but she is almost a perfect shot. My daddy taught me when I was four and Andrew is teaching her. She knows not to touch them at the house. She knows that she is only allowed to touch them when we are out in the canyon and Daddy gives her permission. Jordan knows that he is only allowed to touch the guns if there is a threat to one of us or our animals. He usually checks on the birds and locks them up in the evenings. If he sees something outside, he grabs the .22 and hunts it down. Andrew is not always home and I like to know that we can take care of ourselves. There are nights that I have to go with him to receive a load of cattle and pen them out. That leaves the kids alone at the house. It is usually after the kids have gone to bed. Most people wouldn't worry in a town with a population of less than 150, but they also don't realize that we have more than one registered sex offender living in town. My kids will know how to protect themselves, as will my husband and I.

edited to add that for some reason it keeps saying BYC instead of "A p r i l" today.

I have an answer also. Meet everyone at the driveway with your shotgun in hand, JUST in case. We live off the beaten path, if you come to our house, you either know where you are going and we are expecting you, or, you are lost and we will still meet you at the door with shotgun in hand. I petty the poor fool that is wanting to just look to see what can be taken. 12 guage with BBX4s thru a super-full turkey choke does wonders. And if they happen to escape that, I pull out AT&T, she will reach out and touch from 1,000 meters away, 300 Weatherby Mag with 135 grain boat-tail Excellerators. Yes, WE can all shoot and hit what we aim at.

I hate a thief.

Good Morning [late]
i just had to add something to the messages just posted.
I have some chickens [imagine that?] and wanted to put them on Craigslist but I am just too "chicken" to have strangers coming to my house.
My husband might be at work and I would be alone......just seems way too spooky to me. I live off in the country, have 4 big dogs and lots of guns, am not afraid to shoot, but still........
What a shame it is.

AMEN!!!!!!!

Peaches is left alone most days. She is a very good shot with every gun we have.

And YES, it is a shame that you have to resort to such actions to keep from losing

everything you have worked for just so some lazy individual can steal it.

A neighbor of mine had a GQF incubator stolen last week from his garage. This was the second one he lost to thieves.

Buster, sorry to hear about all three families experiences.

I believe in shotgun power also. Every once in a while when I'm working outside, I lean it up against the feed shed in full sight. My grown son lives a tenth of a mile down from us. He has every type of gun, but uses a Sig 45. He broke the shooting record at Eastern College where he earned a criminal justice degree, with this pistol.

I don't worry so much about trouble when we are home. It's when your gone that the cowardly lowlifes like to hit you.

It's the cover of his newest book, which I am currently reading (see signature line).

I'm a librarian. I like to promote good books.

I used to carpool with a librarian, we were both working a "transitional" job. She moved due to divorced and my job got send to India. Since I assumed she liked books. I asked her what sheliked to read. She said "oh, I've never been much of a reader". I was a bit a-gog. I asked her if she had a thing for the Dewey Decimal System. her response was she just liked the quiet. Fair enough answer I guess.

I love the the scientific Richard Dawkins and have red a couple of his books but the politics that surround him, well I just stay out of it.

I can understand that thinking, because it does seem over the top.

But no. It all really happened.

My colleague is known for her temper, and it can be a bit bothersome at work some times (though we still love her), but in this case it certainly paid off.

Apparently the guy was in the house when the husband arrived home and was surprised by him. When my friend arrived home, he ambushed her, as well. I'm not sure a gun would have helped all that much, but you never know.

My dogs got an extra treat today.

Wow, that can sure shake everyone up & make us think about all our vulnerabilities. Thanks Jim, for sharing this with us.

Tomorrow, Gerald and I are going to pick up our new Komondor guard puppy and also our conceal carry permits are ready to be picked up at the Sherrif's office. Now, we just need to get some good handguns that we feel comfortable with.

Great! Maybe we'll get to go then.

Hmmmm .... I wonder if they were discussing whether they'd have an auction on July 4th weekend then.

Scheduling your summer already, Carla?
