Good luck! Actually, we can only tell if there's something in there after a couple of weeks incubation and then with a good led flashlight. If you shine it in the top of the egg and see a well defined air sack on top and then it's darker underneath ... there's a chick growing. If you shine the light and there's a slight glow all through the egg ... nothing developed. If you shine the light and you only see darkness and the egg smells .... gently carry it far away and be careful that it not explode near you!

How Come We Are Always To Blame For Starting Something? I Believe Stimpy Bought One The Same Day We Did!

Here's how I remember the order of events that led to this Okie spate of vehiculary acquisition:

1. Stimpy mentioned that he was thinking about it.
2. MAllen bought a red one.
3. Doc & Peaches talked about it.
4. Stimpy bought a black one.
5. Doc & Peaches bought one (can't remember what color...I don't know why you guys insist on going on about engines & powerstroke, when color is the important feature)
6. Al & Laura bought one.

I don't need a new vehicle, but I think it would be great if Les could give me air ride and make it so some really big tires would fit on my car - I want to have the first MonsterPrius.

peaches , i know i got ameraucana, quail and im not sure what else lol and who all i got what from i know those come from you , and the olive granades come from carla , but idk on the rest lol and then they ones in the auction i got as well lol

Now THAT is some very good advice! Right up there with "never kick an egg that you suspect of being rotten" because it takes a long time for the odor to wear off of your shoes/boots.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma
big_smile.png

Are you wanting chicks or started pullets or laying hens? Black and white gives you an opportunity to try several different breeds. Barred rocks, Dominique, Cuckoo Maran, Delaware, and some varieties with laced feathers and feathers on their legs.

One thing about this group, some of us have addictions to hatching eggs and attending poultry auctions, so we would love to assist you in acquiring whatever kind/color of chicken that you would like.

I would really like laying hens. Last year we bought 14 straight run orphinton chicks and ended up with 7 roos!

Today we bought some pullets from a guy off craigslist. On the phone he said they were dominiques, we drive all the way to Newalla and they weren't black and white, but we took them anyway. I learned by posting a picture on BYC that they are black sexlink. I think we are going to re sell them to make room for what we really want.

As I recall, you acquired fawn runner duck eggs from me at the auction and did you also get the Narragansett turkey eggs from me?

The black sex link chickens may not be the color of feathers you seek, but I have to say that mine consistently lay a nice sized brown egg and are good mother hens when they decide to go broody.

Another advantage of black sex linked pullets is that you know you actually have egg layers if he got them from a hatchery, since they are able to tell at hatch by the color of the chick whether it is a pullet or cockerel.
