I don't think I would EVER expect to see a copperhead in my chicken yard.

A ratsnake, maybe - but never a venomous snake. Glad you were well prepared and didn't get bitten.

Hi Michael

It is raining pretty steadily here and I am waiting for it to slow down some so that I can finish feeding. I didn't get started until way late this evening. It was too muggy earlier. You are right, hubby enjoys visiting with the BYC folks and doesn't mind the auctions too much as long as they don't go past his bedtime

He is great about building me new pens for the poultry and rabbits so I won't complain about leaving an auction before it is over - particularly when I have bid on everything I am interested in buying.

The Saltgrass turkeys were especially pretty. I considered bidding on them but decided I am better off to stay with the Narragansetts as my only breed of turkey. The royal palm turkeys I purchased will likely be sent to freezer camp this fall.. . . provided they don't try to drown in this rain. They are in a covered rabbit hutch, so should stay dry unless the wind starts blowing this rain sideways.

Morning all!. I'm on eaelier than usual, haven't even been out to check birds yet. Its he%% getting old and waking up sore ane and tired-er than when you went to bed. I have to do some painting on the new arbor I built on the deck, then clen the garage back up and put away the lumber I didn't use.

Glad to hear you all are getting some rain. Its finally slowed down here and we could use a good soaker too.
Everyone have a great day.

Morning friends,

Day two of a really nasty head cold

slept most of the day yesterday and hope to have some energy today...

Big Momma really has been showing her babies the ropes and is doing a wonderful job and teaching them what to eat and drink... So proud of her...

Sad note we lost 1 of the millie le fleur chickens we got from Muesky yesterday I was so bummed as they are so pretty

Other than that I hope everyone is having a great Monday... my kids are grumbling as they start their online Academy summer school...

Robin - I sent you a PM about hen aprons. If you have a fabric color preference, let me know. I can do prints, too. I'd just need to know what you like.

This has been a super busy summer so far. I'm still recovering from a long family visit. I loved having everyone here. It's hard to catch up on years when you can only spend weeks together. My niece and nephew are growing faster than I'd imagined. They missed their daddy, though, as he couldn't get time off from work to make the trip from California.

If anyone's looking for almost-laying hens (they will probably lay in August or early September), send me a PM. I'm taking a bunch of birds up to Collinsville on Saturday. I've got some Ameraucanas, White Leghorns, and Red Stars. My brooders are about to explode, so DH gave me the chicken talk: Make room. Sell the birds not already on your spreadsheet for next year. Only keep one for every ten you think you can't live without. He's such an engineer, which is good, since without him I'd probably already be that crazy chicken lady down the street.

Dont forget the P&H Poultry Auction In Newcastle this Saturday! Sale starts at 4. We start taking consignments from 9 through the sale. If you have any questions contact jamie or scoots at (405) 387-6092 or (405) 426-0911

Looking Forward to seeing everyone there!!!

Happy (late) Birthday, Jer-man!

Okay Jeannie, I'm going diplay my ignorance and just ask: What is a keeping room?
I hope your roofing endeavors go well today. There are so quite a few people here who are fixing up or building houses - you, Shavon, Donna/Luvs2bmemaw, and of course, Mr. AL!

I am so glad you asked that question. I THINK I have a general idea, since before society bought everything at the grocery store you needed a place to keep your home canned food, the cheese and the non-refrigerated food when it wasn't set out on the table. I don't know what a "keeping room" would be in this day and age when we store so many things in the refrigerator and/or freezer.
