My turkeys didn't do very well this year either. I wish that I had put more into the brooder instead of letting the turkey hen try and hatch them, since the live traps apparently didn't catch all the varmits that steal eggs. I have one turkey hen setting on the last of the eggs for the year and have a live trap set next to her hiding place. She had the good sense to put her nest up next to a chain link fence that is around the bee yard and the nest is next to the workshop on another side, so she is well protected from at least 2 sides.

8 doz guineas! That would be enough to satisfy even my fantasy of having lots and lots of guineas

(and yes, I sold adult guineas at POOPS and at auctions last fall - with the foolish thought that my remaining guineas would reproduce and my numbers would be back up by the middle of the summer. The guinea eggs I rescued from a hen who couldn't say "no" to more eggs from her sisters and put in the incubator have continued to hatch, a few at a time, so I have now hatched about 12 guineas from my own adults.

) I have 20 guineas that are about 3 months old now, that I bought in June from someone who brought them to an auction for delivery to me. I can hardly wait until they are old enough to NPIP test, so that I can set them loose.

The biggest Cochin breeder I know of who lives in OK and is a BYC member (though he doesn't post much) is a gentleman named Bo Garrett (that's his screen name too).
He has Black Cochins in LF and Bantam, Birchin Cochins in Bantam, and Brown Red in LF.... maybe some other varieties too.
He is the pres. of the SEOK Poultry Club which hosts a poultry show in Idabel once or twice a year.

UPDATED INFO:
Here is some info about the Oklahoma State Poultry Federation that I thought some of our folks might be interested in joining. It is only $10 for a two year membership.
The OSPF is a club made up of officers and directors from across the state. The group usually meets about 4 times a year , mainly for show planning.
It only has the one show in December of each year and officers and directors help with set up, tear down, and general running of the show .
Membership is mandatory for officers and directors but you don't have to be a member to show at the show.
There is a $10 membership fee which is good for 2 years. Elections are held every other year .
You can contact Terry Britt or Steve Jones for show or club information.
Terry's email address is [email protected] his phone is 405-737-7697.
Steve's phone number is 972-636-9093.

If you are interested you can also send me a PM.

p.s. Also, if you are joining please mention that you are part of our Okies BYC group.

Thanks,
Monty

I saw where you had posted some incubator trays and egg holders on Craig's list. You must have wound up with a lot of "extra" parts. They look longer than what a Sportsman would use, or are they the same size as a Sportsman?

Yep. After about 3 hours of naps Sunday afternoon, I decided to go to bed last night about 10:30 - so I could get up this morning at 5:30 to feed and water.

I am sure they have the date set already since this year it's their turn at hosting the National's but I haven't heard yet. Perhaps Grace knows. At least we get to see you guy's.

It's December 11-12, 2010

They are longer. Each tray holds 102 eggs

Grace, are you going to show any rabbits at the Duncan show this coming Saturday? I placed an order with the vendor so will be going down to pick it up, but whether I take any of my Flemish Giants to show will depend on the temperature.

My eyes did not deceive me then. What size of incubator would use those trays? One of the commercial size that holds a thousand or more eggs?
