Good evening all. Well we finally found out why we weren't getting any eggs from the ducks. Our only Mallard hen has blessed us with an entire flock of itty bitty duckies. Currently she has hatched out 9 or 10, but there are still about 8 eggs. We moved here out of the weeds and into a bantam condo. It was the only space we had that she would be safe and confined. They look to be a mix of Mallard and Rouens with most of them probably being crossbred. There are several with little poofy hairdos also.


Hey Maribeth. Are you still wanting a tarantula. We caught one at work today and I brought it home just in case. I figured I could hold it for you if you want it or let it go if you don't.

As far as the little mole is concerned, we have decided to keep it in a bucket of dirt and feed it worms until the weather clears up. We decided that it wouldn't be right to let it go in a flooded yard and everything is soaked around here. It has been raining since before I got up this morning and that was at 4:00 am.

That's too funny cause I answered a craigslist add for a free rooster that had flogged a child and it was Okiechick57 she is the one who told me about the BYC I also got my sexlink hens from here when I went to pick up the roo, SHe did warn me that the Okies in the BYC thread was addictive LOL

Spent the entire day looking at dogs in Shelters. I'd seen two pups listed on Craig's list showing that today at 4 was the very last time they had to live. After that, they'd be euthanized.

Saw several at a couple of shelters that would be OK, but none I liked better than a young German Shepherd mix pup that was scheduled for euthanization tomorrow. Might not have gotten one quite so soon ('though I've been looking at CL and rescue sites for over a month), but I just couldn't see them euthinizing this beautiful girl. She was listed as 4 to 5 months old, but the girl at the shelter estimated her at more ike 10 weeks. She's shy, but not shaking or cringing, and wouldn't even stand up once taken out of the pen--the floor was slick--but she responded with tail wags and observed everything closely. She was carsick on the way home but didn't make a sound.

She's now in the big room of the small Dutch barn. She'll probaby meet Sasha tomorrow or the next day, but it has rained her all day today and is also supposed to rain tomorrow. Thank goodness for the rain. Hope I made a good choice.

After a rather bad start with the keets hatching that I'd taken from two nests, today is a bit better day. I didn't know just when to expect them to hatch and didn't get the humidity raised soon enough for the first batch. Two hatched on their own, and I helped four more out, as I could see there was no way they'd make it. A third hatched the next day. I did lose one today, for no reason I could tell, as it was one of the hardier looking ones.

Seven more have hatched today, obviously from the second nest. There are two or three eggs left that may still hatch. I was feeling quite bad about the losses, but I guess it's better than pitching the eggs that I knew had to have been at least sarted.

Have a 'bator 2/3 full of lavender and lavender split silkie eggs. It'll still be more than two weeks before hatch, but I know that at least some are developing.
