Sounds similar to my story - Hi, my name is (fill in the blank) and I am addicted to acquiring poultry.

hopefully, you are writing yourself sticky notes so you remember when to move the eggs to a hatcher. I just know which eggs were acquired at specific auctions and have to count Saturdays to remember when they are supposed to hatch (those from Newcastle hatch the 4th weekend, since they were set the first weekend. Those from Blanchard hatch either the 5th or the 1st weekend or the 3rd weekend, since they were set the 2nd or 4th weekend) I need to start setting quail at the same time so they can be the "timer" that goes off to remind me to move the eggs - since the quail hatch in less than 21 days. I think that is the "Teach" method of hatching.

I need to NPIP test all the birds that are at least 4 months old - so I can move them out of the flight pen tomorrow. I had to toss some smaller birds in there this evening in order to make room for muscovie ducks in the big cages.

Morning~

Donnie I would like to see pic's of you mottled bantam cochins, Madison has been wanting some but I have yet to find any.

As for me I don't feel any better this morning still tired and sore.

Hello everyone! I have missed not being able to post...I have however lurked some in between homework etc. I am happy to report that my neice got her first deer ever lastnight at our property. She was very happy and excited! In the spring she got her first turkey! So yay! She is 14 and unfortunately her bio father is not really envolved with her and more interested in her brother which lives with him. And her mother and stepdad have a 3 year old and a 6 month old so she gets left out quite alot. Last year me and the BF started getting her two days a week to straighten her out cause she was getting in trouble and having major problems with school. In my opinion it was for the attention as her grades are good now and she hasnt gotten in trouble since the first of the summer. All she needed was rules, bounderies and limitations as well as love and time. We had hoped that getting her involved in hunting and 4h/ffa would help and it has! So I'm am very pleased!

We had fun at Fletcher last night, but didn't stay long. Too much work to do. Mike bought all our birds, and paid a fair auction price for them, even though nobody else bid on any of them. What a great guy.

Mike, next time I'm just going to call you and see what you want to pay for them, save all the trouble of taking them and waiting through the auction!

[Just kidding, Peaches!! At least half the fun is seeing all the other BYC folks there, plus we want to support your auction. We believe in what you do. It's the best poultry auction around.]

Robin & Donnie, i'm really isolated from chicken friendly folks as the closest one is over an hour away.

No more losses so far. Nothing showed up the day my bf stayed home from work. I dunno if it moved on or will be back around again. In the mean time i'm working to make things more secure.

Sorry I didnt make it to auction spent most of my day trying to save my birds life. finally had to call les to the rescue. I had a cannabal type bird. at first I thought it was cause my DarkCornish went gamie, so I pulled out all my White plymouth rocks and Cornish X from the breed pen Including one that had her Whole backend ripped up and even her oil gland eaten. Les says she will make it though so after the seperating I assumed all was well till I found another cornish X hen the same way as the other and the guilty Culprit covered in blood. Soon as I removed the cornish she went straight for the next hen. She is now isolated so what I assume is she began it. the Dark Cornish joined in. I still cant decide if I want to cull her or not this is definatly a Show bird. I could just keep her single and eat her eggs I guess. Scared to breed her incase its hereditary. I might just cull her. Never had such a hard decision But I cant ever get back the 10 months of special raising and conditioning I did to raise my Cornish X hens again. out of 5 only 2 survived the Long haul. its just next to impossible to raise them. But as several people know definately Doable. If I have to start over to try and Resurface my white cornish Rock so be it. we will all experience set backs.
Sorry to vent here but I had to get this off. I dealt with Lots of different scenario's in this short time. and without BYC and Some really good hearted Okies I would never have made it. its hard taking one of your best best birds and deciiding her fate. what ever I decide i am sure it will be the right thing at the end of the day.
Time to make the daily for hatching eggs Got Dark Cornish standard, Buckeyes, White frizzle bantam cochin roo over a bantam Buff white laced buff cochin hen, Buff Brahma bantam Over Partraige laced black cochin bantam, BA's, RiR's, Several meat program Birds, some geese, and some duck eggs going into the bator at 8 pm understand.
