Grace,
We were down a little this year but we still had 103 there, plus several guests each night.
I didn't do all the cooking just the grilling when we did steaks and smoking all the ribs.
The day I grilled steaks it took me almost four hours to finish. We had around 130 that night. We get a lot of the Falls Creeek staff when we have steaks. Funny, they never show up on macaroni night. Just kidding, we don't even have macaroni night.
Any way it was a lot of fun. I don't think I could handle being responsible for every meal plus the nighttime snacks. We have three ladies that do most of that and I help where I can.
I am also the bedtime sargeant. I yell lights out and then start throwing the kids that aren't in bed off the fire escape. Not really but I do get them to bed pretty quickly once our nighttime cabin service is over. Usually around 1:00 a.m., sometimes later.
Do you go to Falls Creek? I have only been going for four years. Work always got in the way before that.
Buck

I am glad to hear you weren't doing all that cooking!
"Bedtime sergeant", oh I remember those guys!

I have only been to Falls Creek once, and that was in the fall, for a friends wedding (her and her SO, met as volunteer staff). My church goes to the Kiamichi Baptist Assembly (KBA) campgrounds for our camps.

Cammie, I heard you were looking for a border collie. There is a lady I know that has two females listed on the NewOkiePioneer site for free. One is two years old, the other a pup (I don't know how old.)
Let me know if you are interested.

The Harrah auction is tomorrow evening.
Who all is going?
I am planning to go. I am not selling and hopefully not buying; but then again there is that little guy that always pops up on my shoulder, so you never know.
Hope to see a lot of Okie BYCer's there.

Monty

I'll be there

I bought some really nice australorp chicks a few weeks ago and im hoping to pick up some more this time too.

No more hatching eggs for me. Yours were the only ones that hatched well this last time. So many were old bad that im afraid im gonna end up having one explode in my bators. Not worth that hassle. I had 4 explode last time from a dozen orloffs..fortunately they were under a broody hen but that mess was bad enough sigh.

I know the feeling of the bad hatching eggs bought from the Harrah auction. I bought 2 dozen chocolate & bronze turkey eggs 6 weeks ago there ... 3 hatched & only one was a chocolate turkey, most eggs were clear & 2 exploded. Let me tell you ... it is not fun at all to clean up a cabinet incubator when these eggs explode. I checked the next 6 chocolate turkey eggs that I bought 2 weeks later ... 1 fertile, the rest clear, and 1 ready to explode ... luckily we took it outside and got it in the trash can when it exploded ... it blew up like a bomb when tossed in! Yuck! Still hoping the 1 chocolate turkey egg hatches tomorrow

Gerald and I will be at the Harrah auction on Saturday night. We hope to see summerwindsfarm, Buckguy, and Hangemhorns there! And, I'm sure we'll see some others that I forgot to mention.

We went to the Maud auction last night (Thursday night). We rushed there right after I got off work & packed hatching eggs that we took to the airport post office on the way out of town. We didn't arrive until around 8pm, and they still had a lot of goats selling. I bought 3 black shoulder pea chicks for a total of $83, which was probably a bit high, but none of the peafowl eggs that I've purchased or traded for have hatched

and I've been wanting some ever since I saw some of Poultryand bees black shoulder peacocks. We saw several familiar faces that seem to frequent the Oklahoma auctions ... none of them BYC members, mostly those that resell for a living. I'm sure we'll see them in Harrah on Saturday night ... they're the ones that buy anything that sells cheap enough, no matter what it is ... and I see them out at Mary's swap meet every weekend. Anyway, I wanted to buy some adult peacocks ... they sold for less than I expected ... but we were in such a rush, I left my purse at home (including the cash) and we didn't pack any cages. I was SO UPSET

... I would have bid on the peacocks if I could have paid for them and transported them home ... I would have kept a pair and seen if Poultryand bees wanted the other ... I'm still on the lookout for her some more birds! We left the Maud auction at almost midnight ... and they still had lots of cages of birds to go.

Come on Buckguy ... don't you want some 3 month old golden phoenix? Got anything to trade ???

I sure hope Hangemhorns is bringing me a puppy to the Harrah auction .... I will be so excited

Okiemommy, where is your reunion? My family is having one as well, maybe we're related... *haha*

Wanted to add this link, see what you guys think.

Any news on the new date of Chickenstock?

Well as usual the little guy on my shoulder started bidding and I ended up buying tongiht at Harrah.
I didn't take any cages and had to borrow some from Robbie at the auction.
I bought a pair of game hens but didn't get the ones I really wanted. I bought two Welsummer juvie pullets and I am not sure how but I bought a pair of turkeys.
My son has been bugging me to buy some but I never have until tonight that is.
New experience for me.
I thought the auction went well. Not too many problems . It was a buyers night most stuff went cheap.
Good to see Carla and Gerald, Lisa (critter) and Cheryl (Summerwinds).

LOL that little guy is good at that isnt he! I brought home 24 guineas for a friend (yes i work hard to keep my title as chicken enabler on the homesteading list lol). And 17 smaller guinea keets for me. And a box of rir chicks. I was disappointed that there werent many chicks there this time though

Yeah..not taking cages never works for a true chickenaholic because they always have enabler friends with cages around lol.

Den was really frustrated even voice his opinion to a couple of the guys running. That is sooo rare with Den. Im usually the one with the mouth lol. They were not announcing *what* the chickens they were selling were! That would be okay if you were sitting towards the front and knew chickens..otherwise forget it. From half a room back i cant tell a cuckoo maran from a barred rock and im not going to bid on something i dont know what it is. He said he noticed that almost every bird they didnt say what was went cheap to buyer 1500, whoever that is, and he feels like it was intentional. I dont know. I dont hear enough in there to really have an opinion but i agree that the auction just doesnt feel on the up and up and ive been to a lot of auction. I'll go and buy, but i wont take anything to sell. Ive got a couple months to build cages before the next Prague auction i guess. I hate that too cause i thought id found a good place to both buy and sell.

I didnt realize that was Carla sitting next to you when we came until after wed looked around and sat back down. I didnt recognize her without her bright yellow chillin with my peeps shirt lol. Gerald and Lisa i dont know ..yet anyways <grin>. I was dog tired by the time we got to the auction. Christina, a chicken addict from the okie homesteading lists, came in to go to Prague auction and spent the night with us. We stopped talking about 1 or so and i was up at 5.. by late aft the lack of sleep has caught up with me big time lol.
