It's only 10 in the morning and my thermometer is already reading 101 degrees here in the NE. Our poor birds are panting and I feel so sorry for them.
I work in a hospital and it is kept about 70-72 degrees so this 100 degree weather really stinks. I would much rather have it 40 outside.

Greetings All!

I'm not sure this question is appropriate for this board, but I had to give it a shot......(if it isn't appropriate, let me know and I'll delete this post.)

Anyone know a good place to start looking for a homestead or acreage in eastern OK??

We're wanting to move to Oklahoma and need to stay east of OKC for hubby's job. Hubby is a "Medium-Haul" truckdriver out of Little Rock, AR and has limits as to where we can live.

As we need private financing for any purchase, we can't just start calling up Real Estate agents and go pouring thru listings. Most people who are willing to sell this way don't use RE agents for this kind of transaction anyway.

A 99 year lease, lease option to buy, etc. are what we need to find, and I'm clueless of where to start looking.

We'd like to find at least 10 acres with or without a house with a small down payment, and reasonable monthly payments.

I've got family roots In Tulsa and dearly want to get the heck out of So. Arkansas. My Dad's family were Okies and I want to go home!!

Here's hoping someone has some Ideas for me....

About the only thing I can reccomend is to pour through the Tulsa and OKC papers and also the little free papers like the Pennyshopper. Look for owner financed tracts. Ebay is also a good place to look, there is usually ground down around McCalister and other regions in that general area. Be wary though, usually the intrest rates are high and restrictions abound.

That was in the shop at 11am and the coolest portion is where we have the thermometer. The wrenches got too hot to pick up barehanded. According to the bank it got to around 109 yesterday so the shop got over 120 while I sat at home in the a/c. Kingfisher sits in kind of a bowl so in town it gets hotter than the surrounding area and the official mesonet site is East of town on a nice windswept hill.

So far everyones doing good here despite the heat. I let everyone out to free range by mid morning and i think that helps since they can find deep shade under the porch and at the edge of the woods. It looks pretty funny under the porch by mid afternoon with dogs, cats and chickens all laying under there where its cool!

My ewes are pregnant and due in sept and the heat seems to be the hardest on them. All i can do is offer frequent cool water and plenty of shade and hope for the best. So far so good and tomorrow its supposed to cool down some!

I worry most about Den since he has to work in the heat

I lost my sultan hen to the heat, the other birds in the pen with her are still doing great. Had water & shade. She just couldn't handle the heat. Luckily *knocks on wood* everyone else is still okay but we really need some cooler temps to get here! It was 107 yesterday. I'm worried to death I'm going to lose my one and only blue orpington cockerel or one of my other bigger heavy birds (cochins & brahmas).
