Hope Monty is holed up somewhere if he came down tonight! It's come a flood of rain, lightning, thunder, high wind gusts and dime sized hail!

I didn't even get to make my nightly round on the yard. Weather. Got bad right after I got home. The power has been flickering off & on, my hatch in the incubator will hopefully make it through... Day 19, currently.

Well we have Komondors and the main difference in the other breeds is that they do not run around the perimeter all night and bark plus they won't be drawn away from those they protect.

We introduced them to the goats the other day and the boys kept between them and the fence and as usual when they layed down one was pointed one way and one was pointed the other way. I need to get updated pics of them. Both boys can get their mouths around my upper thigh

So is there a dog that is about shelty size that can be around chickens? am need something about that size maybe a little bigger that will keep an eye out without goin after the chickens

I have heelers, particularly the blue heeler is incredibly smart. They weigh from 40 - 50 lbs. I saw some for sale at the last blanchard auction. We just got the chickens and the dogs walked around smelling em then went and laid down. Had a chick on ones forhead just to test and he just looked at me like, really mom, this is degrading.

Also, I do not have fences that would necessarily keep my dogs in but for the most part they stay in. Only time they run out on the road is when some stray is passing.

Love love love my heelers.

no coloring the embryos is easy , just use food coloring , you take a small drill bit , like a dental drill , and bore a small hole in the shell but dont break thru the lining , then you take the syringe you filled with food coloring and inject about a 1/2 cc of food coloring into the shell and then cover the hole with parafin wax , or i used candle wax ... and you do this on about day 14 , and upon hatch if you pick the chicks up before they are dry the color will still come off onto your hands so dont touch til dry unless you want your hands to look like mine do right now lol ... looks like rainbow bright spit on my hands

I love heelers, and its great yours is that good with chickens, but yours would be more the exception than the rule, I have known more than 20 heelers in my life, and have owned 3, and that mentality in a heeler is definitely in the minority, but as I stated before i fyou can get one that lacks some of the intense drive they are bred for, they make great dogs....would love one myself if I didnt have so many dogs and could turn their 'drive dial' down a few notches...
