Okay duck lovers out there...took a walk with hubby to the four corners gates and passed by one of the ponds.
A pair of tan colored ducks walking upright like a runner duck were nervously circling away from us near the cat-tails. What was striking besides their stance was the flamingo pinkish-orange colored beaks and feet. When they took off the wingspan was probably 3 -3.5 feet and there were darker brown or black feathers in the wings of the bigger (male ?). With the over-cast outside, couldn't tell much more.

Had we both not been there together to see them, neither one of us would have believed the description by the other because we have never seen anything like them.

Any ideas...can't find anything on-line yet.

Hey all.

Well I've had good news and bad news today. Good news is that my snake has finally eaten again. He stopped eating last Fall. The bad news is that the last 2 Silver Duckwing babies didn't make it. I still have 4 SD babies, 4 Cochin, and 16 Serama babies that are doing great. They are about 2 weeks old now. I have a few pips in the incubator also.

I got my container garden planted. I am only doing containers this year, but I may do some of the potato towers also.

Sorry to hear about you babies, and glad your snake is eating. What kind of snake? My daughter had a python that got out of its cage once and disappeared somewhere in the house. About three months later she found it in her closet. It was pale in color but after she fed and watered it, it's color came back and it behaved normally. It took a couple of weeks for that to happen though.

I, too, am not planting any outdoor gardening this year. First year in quite awhile nothing will be growing there.

I think the better question is "Is it normal to sit in the coop to watch the chickens?"

I am the same way - when I've had to get rid of coons I sit next to the cage until they calm down somewhat and are still enough I feel I can dispatch with one well-placed close-range shot. Sometimes I sit there for quite awhile. Then I always cry a little bit after. Taking any life is never fun, although very necessary at times.

Since I'm kind of depressed anyway, I'll tell you: All the little baby turkens died. I think I killed them by putting DE in their bedding - I probably got too much in there. There's nothing sadder than a handful of dead chicks.

And the sun is not out.

And it's not Friday yet...

I lost all my baby cochins 'cause even though I put them with a hen that already had babies, the rooster with'em apparently knew they were imposters.

Cuban, sorry to hear that...
