Got it - so create a chicken community. That sounds like fun! I've read that you should build them up off the ground and some people say to build it on a concrete floor. You guys have thoughts on that?

if there is a chance you may decide to do any showing, concrete floors are NOT the way to go, imagine a bird takin a dust bath on concrete, will shred the feathers, and wire isnt a lot better...

I have 3 pens on concrete with "bathtubs" of dirt with a bit of grit. The cochins love it, croud in there till it looks like just a big pile of feathers. I put Poultry dust in there too and the treat themselves for mites when they bathe. The pens are so easy to clean with a pressure washer. The only down side is that their foot feathers are a bit worn.

I am hoping someone is in the market for some very big exhibition quality Giant Buff Cochin hens, and a quad of Standard Golden laced cochins. Look us up out there it would be good to put a face to the name.

OH MJ...Think of how many bantams you could brood under a GIANT cochin lol

I have seen Karl and Stephanie's buffs. They are awesome. Joe is going to shoot me when I get home from the auction tonight!

Our inside coop has a cement floor that we'll cover with straw or pine shavings.

We're also trying to figure how big to make the outside run. Just got back from pricing supplies. I think we'll have it at least 20' wide (the depth of our little barn) but I'm not sure of the length yet. I'm also hoping to make a chicken tractor to move them around the yard. We may be able to let them free range some but will have to do it only when our dog is in the house.

Hey everybody, I have some info, a rant and a ?. The info is that the Jones feed stored is now selling "show" Mille fleur Duccles. along with other barn yard breeds. The rant is that everything in that store is over priced. I just got a bag of layer pellets from lumber 2 for 10.39, same stuff at joned feed $15.?? Same with their chick starter $16.?? And the barn yard chicks were $4.50!! CRAZY! The mille fleur duccle chicks were a couple of weeks old and they were $15.00 The guy said they were show birds and thats y they were so much. He never said SHOW QUALITY Just show birds. The way he said it seemed to me like it was just his opinion. Someone once told me "any bird can be shown, that doesnt make every bird a show bird". That was the rant and my ? is Knowing that everything else is over priced Does that seem to high for 2-3 week old Duccles??? Also the parenst are on site. They have 2 trios there and about 15-20 chicks. Any thoughts?

It's like gas, charge what the people will pay. I can buy a bag of feed at Atwoods for the same price as a bag of feed at the local feed store. But the Atwoods bag is 10 pounds short of most.
