My BR are due in April as 1 day old chicks. I know if I get a chick from the Feed Store (EE) I need to keep it separate for awhile. How long do I need to keep it separate? Will it be very hard to get it to be accepted by the others?

Lynn - What a neat website! I teach English, drama, and visual arts, so an outdoor education program is outside my area of expertise. I always went to camp during the summer as a kid, though. My parents were teachers and were usually the squarest camp counselors around. We rarely had to be in a cabin with either parent, so it was like being at camp with just brothers and sisters (5 total). Dad was the guy who taught boating, hiking, and roughing it. He used to quote from the Firefox books. He was a rock climber as a young man. He was a member of the Sierra Club (since the beginning of time, or so it seemed, because his stories got longer and longer each time they were retold). Mom helped kids who needed summer remediation for reading, and she taught ceramics, basketry, sewing, painting, lanyard making, macrame, and just about any camp craft you can think of. Looks like I could get a job through the website if I decided to work summers. Thanks for your post.

when you get it, you need to get a couple more so she won't get lonely, that is important- what age diff will you have between them?

I haven't gotten it yet. The store normally doesn't get any chicks till March or April. I'm hoping to get an EE very close to the age of the BRs.

Where did you order your chicks from? They may all come from the same hatchery
