A last name would help, My husband and his family are Henryetta natives for a couple of generations, I am more recent the last 15 years.

I just saw where you posted the last name, there are some Arnold's in the area, I'll ask my husband when he comes home if he knows of them.

Oh wow, what a small world. I recall they told us that Henryetta was a very small town. I figured everybody knows everybody. I think about them from time to time, and wondered how they were doing.

Sooner - I think you need to make your disclaimer - since it has been awhile and we have so many new members - that you change your avatar frequently

Hi everybody!!!

Okay Coop101 your avatar picture totally grosses me out. I have learned to not kill on site every spider I see but not into them at all.

Hope everyone is ready for the weather. I have a ton of things to get done today, to get ready. Which, of course, has to wait til I get off work.

Did everyone weather the last bout okay??? I was worried about how everyone faired. Maybe a role-call should be in order. I have my little car which can get through just about anything, so if someone gets stuck or needs help let me know. Can not pull you out but can come gitcha. K?

So does anyone know when the exotic animal auction is this month. I thought they said this next Saturday but with the weather, ????. I am so jonesing for an auction right now it is starting to hurt. Plus I have not had my monthly fix of nachos, system is getting all normal and we can't have that. hehehe! What about the Blanchard auction, is it still going on this Saturday??

Well the kids are coming back, so much for a lunch period. Everyone be safe and have a great day!

Sooner - I really didn't expect a third avatar picture in the short time I was online at lunch today

The lastest issue of Hobby Farm has a good article on raising "heritage chickens" and the need to consider the committment to the cause, since you don't want to develop a flock and then take them all to an auction or put them in the freezer - thereby depleting their breeding numbers again.

I think that I want some Nankins now that I have read about them. They are a bantam - but very broody. Who was it awhile back that mentioned they raise them? They sure are cute.

My email from the Ensign Auction (Prague exotic animal auction) said it will be February 18 and 19 and they have a lot of parrots pre-cosigned. If you want to call before you drive to Prague, their number is 405-612-5856. There will not be an exotic animal auction in March.

Blanchard is this Saturday, the 12th.

Good job Deena! You got a good deal on them - I'm happy you found them - now is the fun time when you sit next to the brooder for the next few weeks watching them all run around and grow. I'm glad you got Barred Rocks, too - they are nice birds and usually have fun personalities, and they will lay very well for you.

Thank you. We only paid $5 for the barred rock girlies. He was out in inola, but worth the drive. His coop was way too small for what he had, but he had a huge variety. The chickies hatched out of mint green eggs, so that should be fun for our egg collection.

I am excited. This fall we will be getting so many more eggs!!

Maybe you could come sex them for me when they get older?

You got a good deal on your darling chickens and since you are willing to walk away from them if they turn out to be roosters, you can just enjoy them until you can figure it out.

The guy that gave us some hens will take what we have left. I sure hope my favorite is not a roo though, we may have to change our plans and keep him. He/She is a doll and has a fun personality!

When they start developing feathers around their neck, you can look and see if the feathers are very pointed or rounded on the ends. That is a good way to tell fairly early whether they are roos or pullets, since roos in those breeds have very pointed feathers and hens have rounded feathers. Or, you can wait and see if they start crowing - that is another good way to identify the roosters.
