As a retired volunteer firefighter (23 years) and chief for 20 years I can say honestly you are so right.
We trained in the same OSU firefighter classes as the paid firefighters (just not as long or as intense)
Most of the folks on this thread live in the rural areas and benefit from the small rural volunteer fire departments.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 71 percent of firefighters in the United States are volunteers.

I believe that what we all (public servants) have in common is our desire to protect and help our neighbors.
I would like to say a special "Thanks for your service!" to all our military, ems workers, and our elected officials at all levels.

OKCarla, are you and Gerald going to make it to Fletch?

Jeannie, we'll see you and Jason at the old homestead around quarter to 4 or so.

[Glad you don't live in the city or I would have to say "urban homestead" as I could get in trouble because some morons in California have trademarked that term.]

Well, let's see. There are 6 and 3 are already taken. I'm keeping 2 for sure, which leaves one male Great Pyr/Anatolian cross. If nobody takes him I'll be happy to keep him, but he is up for grabs. Let me know when you are ready and if I still have him, he's yours.

[Hounding for a puppy. That's pretty good.]

Saw Michael D and Teach at Mary's this morning. Jaxon had a WONDERFUL time hanging out with Clayton and Bubba. They were so much nicer to him than Jaxon's older brother treats Jaxon.

Michael had a couple of blue Madagascar hens. Now I have a couple of blue Madagascar hens
