Some people Use hatcherys when hatching large number of chicks and some just hatch in there bators. you can Go from your incubator to your brooder as long as there is wind draft protection. you can regulate the tempratures as required for hatched chicks. first week 95 degrees and reducing that per weekly to 5 degrees less so week 2 in the brooder should be 90 degrees and so forth. Also important to have adaquite space for your chicks.
But anyhow to answer the question yes you can hatch with just a bator. No need for the hatchery also.

Oh thanks so much.. i have heard it both ways on here just wanted to make sure .. i probably wont be hatching out alot at a time so i can probably get by with the smaller one for now but then if i stay around here i will have to expand in the future as it seems everyone likes to hatch eggs...lol

I'll have to rig something up for a nest box. We always have scrap wood hiding out in the garage for small projects like that. I'll definitely have to try the golf ball to lure them into laying in it. They seem pretty freespirited in their wonderings and I don't want them to get in the habit of laying eggs out in the woods somewhere. I don't know if she was pleased about her egg or not, but I certainly was happy to see it. Our Buckeyes and Australorps lay perfectly fine brown eggs, but green eggs are just fun to see.

I can't say publicly what we used for our nest boxes b/c I think technically it is a federal crime!

You're welcome. Everybody on this thread is a valuable resource. Ask and you shall be answered. Often a question prompts me to go look up the answer because it's outside of my experience. Bored? Never. This group can talk chickens and never, never get bored.

Well I just heard Watson the computer won the Jeparody match, I was pulling for the humans!

I bet you can too, not many nest box items could be considered as a federal crime!! lol

Evening peeps! Boy has it been a long day & a half! We went to the Ominplex & spent the night. I was so happy to be home, after doing my chores I even got to take a nap!

Robin how is your cochin doing?

Six, ask all the questions you want, everyone here is so helpful. I personally hatch in the bator then move to a brooder once they are dry.
