Thanks for the warm welcome all

My husband works in Tulsa, so he makes the hour and a half commute everyday.

Does anyone know of a good feed store between Tulsa and OKC? Preferably off the turnpike...

In addition to our 4 hens, we have 3 dogs (all rescue) 3 cats (I fostered them for the humane society and couldn't give them up) a bunny that rules the backyard and an aquaponics garden. Basically we turned a koi pond into a catfish pond, then the water from the pond is pumped into vegetable grow beds and returned to the pond clean and oxygenated. The fish poop fertilizes the veggies

By the end of the summer we should be able to harvest veggies AND catfish

I'm turning my city boy husband slowly into a "not so city" boy.

I have 20 acres in Kingfisher that I'm convincing him we'll turn into a mini-farm when he retires.

The meet up sounds neat

I have a special needs daughter that is homebound (school district teachers come to our house to tutor) so we'll see how she's doing when the time comes

I try not to make many long term plans, as it is always such a letdown to have to cancel.

I look forward to getting to know all the Okies!

SoonerAmy - I don't feel so bad about my 40 mile commute to Tulsa now! That's quite a commute your hubby has.

I don't know of any feedstores out that way, but I know every store on my route

I google mapped it, and there's a Cross Brand Feeds in Northeast OKC. Anyone familiar with it?

KarenN! My brother went to High School in Beggs - back in the Dark Ages. My dad was the Methodist minister there at the time.

It sounds like you do have lots of fun - we are so glad you are here - we like fun - and chickens. You'll find lots of Turken fans here!

Looks like we are going to want to pick your knowlege base on some things - like plans for your aquaponics set-up. Some of us like to try a variety of things that will make us more "self sufficient" and I love the concept of a way to filter the water through the vegetable garden.

I have shopped at Cross Brand Feeds on and off for the past several years. They carry Purina and Blue Bonnet feed. Good service and friendly folks. I shop there when their prices are less than Lumber 2 or Kings Feed in Harrah and don't shop there when their prices are higher.

I suspect there a alot of folks who would like to incubate and hatch eggs, but don't want the responsibility of caring for the chicks afterwards. I annually receive chicks from two kindergarten classes that like to hatch eggs, but don't have any students equipped to raise the chicks afterwards.
