Yesterday evening I talked to NNbreeder - a/k/a Dr. Les. He is still in the hospital and awaiting the results of the biopsy on the tumors on his spine. He is in good spirits, but bored silly. If any of you have been wanting to visit with him about some breeding project you are considering or about nutrition or health issues in your flock (or about goats, horses, diesel engines, plumbing, etc.) send me a PM and I will give you the direct phone number to his room.
In talking to him, I learned that I shouldn't give turnips to goats or sheep until after the frost has hit them or the turnips will have too much nitrogen in them and that chickens probably won't eat mustard greens (we discussed my plans for a garden that will have critter treats included). I also learned that I can add 3/8 inch pelleted alfalfa to my layer feed to increase the protein.
