I tried to plant things that would have good greens for the critters. I went to Ross Seed in Chickasha and to Horn Seed in OKC and had WAY TOO MUCH FUN selecting seeds by weight and getting all these packages of seeds with no pictures but lots of seeds - for less than the cost of a package of seeds at the hardware store. I will definately be freezing some seeds for next year and am planning to try sprouting the seeds from past years that I have accumulated.

Ok question for you on the leaf lettuce. I have read something somewhere about it getting to hot & something happening to it that ruins the taste.....What should I be watching for or doing to prevent this? Mine is just now sprouting so I want to make sure I get it right.

Freezeing the seeds & you can re-use them the next year? Hummm wonder if some other I have are still good.....I didn't freeze them just kept them dry.

seeds have been found in graves and suchthat were thousands of years old and they were planted and grew into plants thought extinct or that showed the origins of modern corn plants and such

I don't generally know when that is. I just harvest as needed, but take a taste before harvesting. Once it starts to taste bitter, the season is over.

Jeannie, if you are still lurking, I think you might enjoy the book I am reading at the moment Three Little Words. It was written by a teen a couple of years after she had been adopted out of a foster home/institution situation. She had good and bad experiences, but one thing that stood out was the caring people like you and Peaches who helped her along the way, even though the stays were often temporary.

Thanks to you and Jason for taking care of our equipment after we helped process those birds for you. Tell Jason it came back cleaner than before we started.

I will miss you. You are both good people.
