Speaking of skunks...we have seen an inordinate number of skunks around Meeker...even in the early evening.

Besides getting our dogs/cat vaccinated, we have to protect the chickens from skunks, coyotes and other maurading varmits. Every evening the chickens are closed into the hen house which is a 12 by 14 foot room enclosed in the corner of the barn. The tin walls are good protection.

Hubby and his brother welded my chicken run from 2 inch pipe and 2 x 4 inch space wire panels. The run is 50 feet long and 8 feet wide running the length of the barn. It has a sloped roof from the same wire to keep out hawks. Around the bottom we have reinforced the outside edge with landscape timbers to keep predators from digging under the bottom pipe. Since the run is on the south side of the barn, we attached shade cloth over sections of the roof to provide shade in the heat of the day. The hens and roos love to run sprints the full length.

What strategies have any of you used to keep out skunks? What about possoms?

Okla-doodle I am still coughing and slept most of the afternoon, so hopefully this will get resolved soon. My asthma, which normally isn't much of a problem, decided to get in on the equation - big time. Thanks for asking.

Great Joe! You will be over run with pigeons before long. Mine are doing good too. Lost one big baby today tho. It was a mondain, one of my big breeds. Don't really know why it died unless it chilled, but it really wasn't that cold I didn't think. I sold some of my pouters at the sale today, they didn't do very well. But I made up for it with baby rabbits, they were only five weeks old and brought $10 each! Seven of them!

I ve been wondering about getting pigeons and rabbits , of course the birds would be too look at and fly around horse barn but the rabbits would be for meat and suggestions
