As far as I know it's okay to feed poop to the BSFL as long as it's from a different class of animal. There have been studies where BSFL were raised on pig manure and fed back to the same animals, but the larvae were processed first by drying or heating or maybe both, so pathogens would have been killed.

Hey Six - I'm here. Still not really caught up on this thread yet...about to head back to get something productive done. How are those little yellow-legged, single-combed chipmunk chicks you have turning out? Mine seem to be feathering in a dark red....I'll have to get more photos to see if anyone can ID them now that they're older. I wonder if they're some type of sex-link...

Just to name a few there are the parasites such as worms which are shed as eggs. Also Gape Worm is hosted by earthworms which is why keeping the chickens away from the compost pile is a good idea.

Many birds that have immunity to diseases will also shed those diseases in their fecal matter. The most common would probably be MG which is the cause of CRD.

Hogs have a different immune system and are closely related to the human type of system. If I remember right there are 27 diseases that a hog can share with a human and a disease like that is said to be zoonotic (sp) because it doesn't need an intermediary to make a jump to another species.

Here is a link to a good source of info for disease. The sidebar on the left is one of the easiest way to navigate.

It is SO good to see you on here again. I continue to pray for your quick recovery. I agree on the hospital requirement idea! I just bookmarked the health link you posted - thanks!

LOL, when my dad was in for extended times we always took his laptop for him to get online & talk to us. He loved it, not sure if they had free internet or if he had an air card.
