Babyrnlc - you are in luck! In a couple of weeks Atwoods will get baby chicks in, then you can go pick out some baby laying pullets. If you like, perhaps we could go together to see what they have. Looking at baby peeps at Atwoods is one of my most favorite things!

edited to add - sorry about your non-fertile eggs. Bummer.

What is the name of the gardening book?
I know that at least some varieties of figs grow in Oklahoma, because many years ago I made jam from figs grown in a friend's backyard.

Oh that would be awesome! Cause I am clueless. We got lucky with the girls we got.

How old will the chicks be? Will they still need a brooder, or are they older?

Where is atwoods? Is that in BA? I am at 31st and Memorial

The chicks are sent to Atwoods when they're a day old, and they will definitely still need a brooder. There is a very nice Atwoods in Broken Arrow - near 71st & 193rd E. Ave. The chicks usually arrive around Valentine's Day...how appropriate!

City - I candled your eggs again. 8 wigglers and jigglers entertained me for a bit. The other 5 have lots of growth, but I guess the little tykes were sleeping. I'm happy with the strong veining. These are going to be big chicks. I have collected a few more eggs from my Ameraucanas pen, but they were all quite cold when collected, so I don't know how many will be viable. I will set the next group tomorrow and let you know on the 13th how that batch looks.

I put out lots of feed for the wild birds today. The cardinals were plentiful, and there are some birds with bright orange beaks I can't identify. They are shy so I couldn't get a good picture. Maybe tomorrow I'll have more success so I can post a picture and see if anyone knows what type of bird it is. Here's a picture of the little flying piggies snacking at the Saint Francis Bird Bar today (Saint Francis is a 2-foot-tall concrete statue. Only his head is visible in the drift.)

That would be so fun. I have chemo on Valentines day, so I am busy all day, but Tuesday I could go. I gotta see if my mom is working, cause she will want to go! This is sort of a joint venture lol. Her and I built the chicken coop. This will be fun! Now to read up on brooding chicks!

Edited, we could go after chemo. I am usually done by three.

How will we know if they are hens or roos? Or do we just get extra and then sell the roosters, or give them away?
