Lynn - I love my penny hatch and my uuuuugly game hen cross. They give me a big egg every day, and they are sweet once you pick them up. I want to raise some more game hens, and having a roo in there would be great too. How's the red quill doing for you?

Ya gotta understand, my momma didn't raise me to be sellin eggs on the corner...

We all end up dissappointing our moms...mine thinks I am the biggest redneck that ever walked...I tried telling her about Monty but she didn't listen...

The ol' trashcan trick...I know that one well...works great if you can find one that is short enough but round enough then you can just push them backwards and in they go...

Lynn- you sound like you have given that speech recently...I gave it at about noon...I was wanting a nap...

Teach - I'm an absolute washout when it comes to physical discipline. I broke up a fight in the cafeteria between two high school girls last year by standing between them as ask them to please stop fighting. They were both so taken back by my meek appearance and mousy words that they marched themselves to the office. My students mocked me for the rest of the day. It was awesome.

Spent the afternoon reinforcing the chicken coop. My lab keeps breaking into the coop to steal the scraps. So I had some extra wire cubes from making the rabbit hutch and we put some all along the bottom, there is no way Baylee is going to push the wire off now! The girls followed me all along the edge, they have scratched to the dirt no snow anymore. I can't wait until we thaw so we can move the coop. It needs it!

We still got an egg from each of them. When I went out to work on the coop in the afternoon, I check the nestbox (cause there was only an egg from the ee in the morning) and there was Gertrude, the cornish, sitting in the nest box. She looked up at me like I walked in on her on the toilet. I actually said, "Oh, I'm sorry" lol. Then I started working on the nest box and heard her clucking a bunch. Then she came out and started scratching, so I checked the nest box and there was her egg for the day.

They have been great. Maybe it is the extra food we are feeding or the scratch for the cold weather, but these girls lay eggs! The cornish has only missed 1 day and then laid two in the same day one time. The EE has missed a couple of days, but she lays pretty green eggs or even sometimes speckled green eggs, so I don't mind lol.

If I would have know how fun chickens were, I would have got some a long time ago! And it really is not a ton of work.

Corol, not sure if you'll want any of mine, so far the ones I have hatched seem to be on the Onery side, ya know kinda Teach like!!! LOL Well lets just say they can be kind cocky at times, I will see what I can come up with for ya!!! The Red Quills are getting along fine, no eggs from them yet but shouldn't be too much longer!!! Teach, I have heard that same speech a time or two when I was a kid some 40 odd years ago!!! LOL Lynn
