We had more than 4" of snow last night. The accumulation on our covered front porch is over 2". I'm in warming up so I can go dig out the door to the guinea pen. They're all up on the roost. Maybe they'll stay put until I bring in some fresh food and water. The smallest guinea usually leaves their warmer sleeping quarters to investigate in bad weather. She's the trail blazer in the group. She's also the only guinea who waits as I lift the waterer off the heated cookie tin. She has figured out that that's where a warm snack lives. I'm not fast enough to get a picture, but here's one that looks just like the furry guinea snacks.

our pet blue jay was sounding his alert, i've learned to trust his one good eye- sitting on a branch surveying the smorgasbord was a huge beautiful hawk- grabbed the camera, a 100% hawk eliminator- they hate cameras- yep, he flew off, dang! with all the poultry locked up and the guineas on the porch- none of my guys are at risk-

coral- love your description of the adventurous guinea!

Good morning all : I hope this morning finds everybody doing well besides the weather being kinda crappy. We didn't get anywhere near the snow they predicted and that's a good thing, we only got maybe a 1-2" dusting, but it is cold & windy BBRRrrrrrrrrr.

Oh, good! I hope you're enjoying them! I know they can possibly bring in problems, but we believe it is soooo important to feed them; especially in weather like this.

We counted at least 22 male cardinals at our feeders a few minutes ago. That, of course, means at least 44 cardinals as they are usually all accompanied by mates. We also frequently see blue jays, juncos, brown thrashers, redwing blackbirds, red bellied woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, tufted titmice,
several varieties of sparrows (no house sparrows), bewicks wrens, the little tiny woodpeckers (can't think of their names right now), an occasional rufous sided towhee, and several other varieties. We both thoroughly enjoy watching them. Vashi has just now gone out to spread a tarp and put out more feed in the feeders and on the ground, as they're having a hard time getting the seeds out of the feeders that are covered with snow.

Just saw a Carolina Wren up close, such nice colors.

beth, we have a fresh hatch (Tuesday) of Blue, Black, Splash, and Partridge Cochins... But they aren't $6 each we can add $ to them so they will be if you want..

Hope you all are doing good out there in this cold storm. Were buried again. Good news is this weathers gonna pass for a while and give us a very nice time to let the birds strech there legs. The wheat fields are covered in a blanket of thick snow which is wonderful since we didnt get any moisture since july of last year in these parts. Now theres a new found hope for a harvest round here.
