Prague action is kinda like going to the zoo but you can buy the animals and take them home with you(if your wife will let you Teach!!) as for birds, when it is nice weather there are lots of birds but if you want to buy you better get there early on Friday morning and watch what is unloaded and get in and buy it if you want it because they can go really fast and then what ever is left of from Friday is ran thru the ring on Saturday. You do have to provide a cage (no cardboard boxes!!!) snd the cage sells with it!!! We used to buy and sell a lot of Pygmy goats there!!! It is a lot of fun to go, we go sometimes just to watch!!! There are regulars there so if you want a good seat you better go in the auction room and get your seat and mark it with a blanket or stadium seats or a KID or something because when the auction starts it fills up fast!!!! I know Roger Insign personally and he and his wife are good people, they have a farm north of Pawnee and have an animal preserve there and give tours for a few dollars, lots of animals to see, it is called Skeedee Creek Preserve and they have a web site!!!! Thanks for checking on us Betsy. Yep, we got snowed in real good this time. Got extra feed yesterday, and are we glad we did. We had 13.5 inches last week and at least another 25 inches now. I've had about as much of this as I can stand.

Stayed inside till it stopped and then started digging out to feed.

The wild birds were so thick where we've been feeding them, you could hardly see the snow. The bushes and tree branches there had so many birds on them it reminded me of summer time when all the leaves were on the trees. They went through at least 20 lb just today. The geese were making their own paths by shoving their head into the snow, shaking it back and forth and moveing forward toward the pond. Then doing it all over again. Now that was some great entertainment. Pond was froze and they had to come back to get any water.

Sorry to hear about your guineas. Were they young ones? I lost one last night too along with an EE banty hen.

Glad you are OK!

Prague is on the other side of Shawnee - there is an exit where you go North to Prague and South to Seminole. It takes me about 45 min to an hour to get there from my house. You go through Prague (which has speed limits

) and then it is 4 miles North on the West side of the road - you actually go past it and make a U turn to come back to the auction, if you are coming from the South.

Noticed that most of my roos, including those with pea combs, have black on their combs. A few of the hens with straight combs have some black also. Other than being unsightly, does it "hurt" them in terms of fertility or anything?

Maribeth the black will eventually fall off. I guess if the frostbite is severe enough it might weaken them or something but overall I don't think it will be a problem.
Now for showbirds, that is a diffferent story becaus e it will ruin comb appearance.

Here's a great story told by the member of a pastured poultry email list...

"Strange #1. Had a lady at a petting zoo look under the feathers of a silkie hen I was holding and ask where her (I presume) udder was. She said she was looking to see where the milk came from to feed the chicks. Yup. Not makin' this up.)"
