Pea soup fog this morning but it is starting to burn off. Still have a small pile of snow in my garden left over from the 5 foot pile 2 weeks ago. Wasn't a 70 degree day yesterday wonderful?

Ahhhhh A chicken person after my own heart LOL. I too never got the Bantam bug, just never saw the value in it.

Good morning everyone

I never though much about Bantams, until I got my new Cackle catalog yesterday and started looking just for the heck of it. I found some really cool ones that eat a whole lot less than my large birds..
And on GMA this morning they were talking about the price of wheat and corn going way up. Which in turn will raise the price of feed, so with bantams I can still have lots of birds at half the cost...But that's just me talking

Off to my current salt mine........... I will check in tonight if I am not to sore, I am doing a tear out in prep for the remodel of this homes 2 bathrooms I am doing and to our surprise all of the walls were made with wire mesh and 2" portland cement floor to ceiling. good thing is The home owner didn't freak out at the new cost & time overuns. see ya'll tonight.

Kathyinmo raising pigeons seems to get in your blood at an early age,not many get into them later in life,really wierd. They are neat because like chickens they have such a wide array of shapes,sizes,colors,habits,feathering,talents. I believe they are kind of like cats. a little smarter than chickens but more aloof and with amind of their own. And its amasing to watch them transform from really ugly duckling babys to beautiful full fledged birds. They are a true eye candy. Even tho most people have a hard time getting into them at first,once you start you are hooked for life. Cared for properly they have a long life time. They have been domesticated for centuries and there is a lot more to them than just the dark colored birds you see sitting on electri wires and buildings in the citys. Check them out,I'll bet if you love chickens,which you obviously do that you will find a breed of them that will crab your admiration too!

What doodle doo said about pigeons! and THEY ROCK!!

I am one of the ones that got into as an adult and will tell you they have a history as long (if not longer) than chickens...their uses are varied and have seen service in major wars (not as food but as active participants! several were decorated in US history...) That bird in my avatar thing is an Idain fantail of the almond coloration...

don- that makes alot sense- as far as those high priced ones, makes me think of some of the exotic horse breeds- but where would you keep those high priced chickens? they would have to be in a lockdown fortified enclosure-

so guys- about guinea integration- how long do i need to have them where they can see the little house guinea before i let her out with them?
