Toe punching is a method of marking a young bird to identify what breeding or other trait of the parents you want to track. With the Toe Punch you place a whole in the web between the toes. Each web is assigned to something you can track such as pen number, or if you have two roos and or two hens you can assign the one foot to the roosters and one to the hens and punch one web for which rooster etc. The whole does not grow closed so you can mark them at hatch and identify them through to adulthood.
So do you just use a paper punch, sorry I had never heard of this before
Don
No they sell a toe punch at most poultry supply shops. Usaully about $7. They are small and only set a whole about 1/32 in. the whole expands as the bird grows. The other option you can use a x-acto knife and remove the web. This is the best method I know of to track individual breeders and evaluate them based on what they produce rather than how they look.
