I have been getting our feed out of Iowa, and I can tell you that when we switched we started feeding more than 1/3 less feed, egg production doubled, hatchability went way up, and the birds look and feel great. When they can't free range they need the animal protien which most feeds are missing. The chick starter we use is made with the same stuff and they don't pick on each other at all and grow great.

That feed sounds great!! I think that we should try to get as many people as we can to all throw in and get a couple tons and split the cost. I think we can beat this rising feed cost thing if we really try. There are enough people that go to Marys if we were to decide to do it we could pick up our individual portions on a designated weekend.. ?? Just a thought. Any ideas??

Donnie anything you want to bring to sell you can set up as we did last year & it will just be you & your buyer. You can list birds for sale & have pre-arranged sales or just bring your stuff & sell it when you get there.

I personally plan to make a list of what I plan to bring & make a link to a "my page" with pictures, I hope to only haul what I will sell, I also have a few that will be donated to the auction to benfit POOPS.

Right now what I have in mind to sell will be:
Pair of barred Cochins
Pair of White Cochins

Wow Joe ,do you need some more bantam Americans to sell! For some reason the bantams aren't bring much here this year, the standards are very high tho! and of course I am going to have to cull some bantam ones out of my herd to cut back:he
Well the auction wasn't rained out but was a bit smaller. Things were going high this year. Saw some red stars, laying age,pen of ten brought $19.50 each! All heavy breed were in the range of $12-15 each bantams were around $8-12 each. There were a lot of big,and I mean big, must have been Flemish giants, tha sold real high. One buck which was odd marked brought $45!
I managed to get a male guinea pig, which I needed, for $2,they were selling for $2-8 each. I also got a trio of Modena pigeons for only $3 each. Their box fell apart so no one wanted to take a chance of loosing them. I just took them to the truck where I had a cage. It was a day of" this is why we don't put birds in cardboard boxes"!

lol there were loose birds everywhere. Surprisingly there weren't any baby chicks there,I guess the cold rain made people keep them home
One guy brought 30+ peafowl! Said he had another hundred at home! They were bring$50-80 each.
It was a fun day despite the rain and cold.

My 2004 Prius does great out there - I try to stay on pavement... Depending on which direction the wind is blowing, I've gotten 55 mpg between Texhoma and Elmwood. Other times it's only a measly 38-44 mpg. It really isn't as small as it looks - the back seats fold down and you can pile a bunch of stuff in though the hatchback.
