Late Morning To Everyone!
Well my 5th graders just finished their writing test and are at lunch. One test down and 4 more to go.
Found my first baby chick under my broody silkie last night and another this morning. Both are ameraucanas and very, very cute. The first one was very loud and churped all night long. This morning when I brought the other chick in to put in the brooder the older chick was so happy to have a friend it started loving on the new one right away. Very sweet babies!
I am going to use my silkie hen as an incubator until she hatches the turkey eggs I got from Carla and Gerald. If I continue to have broody hens I am not going to fire up the incubator. Hens do a much better job raising eggs and it is cheeper.
Unfortunetly, I do not have a brooder hen ready. One thing I learned last year was to put eggs under and takes chicks away from broody hens at night. They do not seem to notice and are less stressed.
Okay so during anyone's journeys or searches I am looking for favorelles, dark brahmas (bantam and standard) and black, blue and white ameraucanas.
Oops, students will be back soon, better get going. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
