Donnie - We'll meet you with your chickens at Lowe's at noon. Same place as before. I will put the birds in boxes with shavings so you don't need to bring cages. I hope it doesn't rain. Are you ready for Speckled Sussex pullets? How many do you want? My DF in Kansas came through. I've got quite a few that she thinks are pullets. Let me know if you want them today. I can make a travel box for the babies too.

robin,
I would tend to agree with Al here. If it is CRD or MG the best course is to cull the bird. There are a few other things that can cause apparent long term resperatory distress and on a hit and miss basis. Poultry can get fungal infections in thier lungs which scar over and is incurable, as well as Gape worms which are very difficult to get rid of, all of these can be contageous or transmitted however some birds have stronger imunities than others.
In any case it would be in your flocks best interest to cull the bird. I know this can be difficult but at times it is the best solution.

Thank's Carl, I was hoping someone else would wiegh in on the subject, and in the same respect when a bird has had Gape worm or fungal lung scaring the bird can become more suseptable to getting MG/CRD.

Al,
No problem, it really is the right thing to do given the circumstances. We have all dealt with these problems at one time or another and will again someday. It is much easier to cull 1 bird than an entire flock.

Morning all!!! I have a cazillion things to do today!!! This wind is terrible!!! Be back on this evening!! Robin, have you considered that you may have a Rhode Island White or a White Orpinton or even a White Chanteclare???? Just a thought! Have a blessed day all!!! Lynn

I'd say this was a minor issue, walked into a mens dorm restroom to take a shower, and a dead hog was in my shower stall. no blood, had been drained.

Thanks for the info- that is what i was thinking, there is more than one cause of wheezing- i do appreciate your input- that is interesting about the scarring- i got her as an adult, so don't know her history-

these are things that just have to be thought of and considered because it's best to be safer than sorry. Good luck.

Thanks Al- i will be mulling it over - as she has no contact with the others currently- BUT- the bio-issue is an area also to be considered
