cool egg scale - I have never seen a digital scale for eggs -
I didn't realize that brown eggs would hold color like that. Did you use a special kind of egg dye or the old fashioned food coloring and vinegar recipe?

Poultryandbees ... I like the digital scale, too. It's more accurate than the standard scales, though not as nostalgic as the traditional ones :) As for dying the brown eggs, we just used the dye tablets that come with the Paas egg coloring kits, and added vinegar. We tested it out on the brown eggs, and found out we had to leave them in the dye quite a bit longer than with the white ones, but they came out with a much richer color. The photos don't really show the true colors, but they are pretty. It would be interesting to see what the blue or green eggs would turn out like, but I don't have a chicken that lays those color eggs. Maybe someone will try it and post their pics here for us.

Hey Okies this is DeAnn ( Doc Henry's other half) just wanted to take the time to get on here while he is peacefully sleeping in his chair to just list off what I am hoping to find at POOPS this year. Im looking for: SQ Silkies, Naked Necks ( standard size, no bantams), Frizzles ( standard size, no bantams), Madagascar Games, Crested Rouens, mini lop and lionhead rabbits. He knows about all this and seems to have finally just given up on controlling the numbers of birds we have!!

What kind of chicken layed the colored eggs?

yuckyuck.gif

Well Steve - she is a very special chicken. Did you notice the golden egg? She'd BETTER lay golden eggs! That darn chicken is very high maintenance, and has cost me millions in vet bills. OK, not really millions ... but a LOT of money. She had a horrible accident back during the cold spell a couple of months ago and has a bum leg now. But her eggs are beautiful, aren't they? Her buddies give me the jumbo sized eggs, but they're just as special.
