Good night all. It was fun to read all the posts this evening - on both this thread and the soap thread.

I have chicks peeping in the incubator. This has been the strangest group of eggs as far as hatching. They have been hatching on and off for 6 days - in the incubator and under the hens where I put them two days before I got them into the incubator. Two chicks hatched last Friday out of this same group of eggs. I didn't know they could incubate in such different time periods.

I plan to give these to the hens that are hatching the rest of this batch of eggs. They each have several peeps beneath them. Love those natural hen brooders;)

HI Nana, just wanted to say hi and that I love to can too, I make jellies also, have not made much this last year but do enjoy it. Had chicks hatch yesterday, don't even know how many, have about 50 eggs left in the incubator also!! Have a good day all, I am off to work. Lynn

This is a good site.
Also there are videos on making soap.
I use goats milk in some recipes.
Honey can brown the soap.

Thanks P&B...I've also made soaps from bacon grease that was cleaned in milk as an experiment....it worked great.

Morning,
I used to get a Tea tree, Witch hazel, and lemon verbena soap from an herb farm in Simi Valley, CA. They stopped making it because they went into a contract deal with Whole Foods. It was wonderful smelling and was the best facial soap ever. Maybe I should try to recreate it if I can't get someone to try for me.
I would love to get together for soap lessons.

Roger helps me can...it's a great family affair. I've got some great pickle recipes and we make our own saurkraut.....

Thats what I was telling Carl yesterday... With 5 kids, and 3 of them leaving home this year we are going to be sooo bored when all of them are gone. We usually always do a garden but have taken a break for the last few years. We are so use to a large garden to support the household and I dont see any point in downsizing the garden just because we have less kids at home. So I figure we can "can" alot of the vegetables for ourselves as well as the kids when they leave home. I am planning to look for some fruit trees to plant this week, and maybe some more this fall. We love fresh fruit just had never got around to getting it done before now. We have a peach tree for a start.
